About the Position and What You'll Do

The Office of the Ohio Public Defender is seeking a professional and motivated individual with customer service skills for an Information Technologist 1 position. The selected candidate will provide Tier 1 IT support for basic incident resolutions and requests reported to the department's service desk. The Information Technologist 1 position will be part of a three-person team who provide support to over 180 employees in five office locations throughout the state, including Columbus, Athens, Marietta, Warren, and Chillicothe. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to maintain a helpful and supportive attitude and be aware of common issues and best solutions, convey empathy to clients and remain calm in stressful situations, and the ability to quickly respond to various IT support situations in a timely fashion.

The duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Initial assessment, triage, research, and resolution of basic incidents and requests for assigned applications (e.g., MS Office, Microsoft Windows)
Create/delete system access accounts and complete new hire onboarding tasks
If warranted, redirect or escalate problems per standard OPD service desk procedures
Create, organize, file, and maintain documentation
Under the direction of the IT Director and/or supervisor, respond to "production down" problems
Install or uninstall approved software as needed
Complete basic configuration and installation of hardware
The hybrid schedule for this position requires that you be in the office at least two days per week, and additional in-office time will be required to meet business demands. The OPD Helpdesk team supports 180 employees across five different work locations, and you will be expected to travel to our office locations within Ohio. Travel will be completed during working hours, and there is no overnight travel.

This Information Technologist 1 position is assigned to the State of Ohio's OSCEA Pay Schedule, Pay Range 30. Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be the minimum salary of that pay range (step 1, currently $23.49 per hour) associated with this position. These ranges provide a standardized pathway for pay increases: with continued employment, new hires move to the next step in the range after 6 months and annually thereafter. The State of Ohio typically has Cost of Living Adjustments that increase wages in these ranges each fiscal year. In the event a candidate demonstrates exceptional qualifications above minimum, they may qualify for a starting salary above step 1.

Qualifications
6 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: computers &/or electronics and/or in telecommunications performing routine analysis, programming, installation, maintenance and/or systems support, solving problems with pre-determined methods on basic hardware or software including experience providing customer support.

-Or 2 courses in computer science or information systems.

-Or equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.
