Job Description

Job Title: Infusion Nurse – Gastroenterology Practice

Reports To: Clinical Director

Position Type: Full-time hourly, non-exempt

Prepared By/Date: CEO/April 8, 2025

Summary: We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Infusion Nurse to join our gastroenterology practice. The Infusion Nurse will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care, administering intravenous (IV) treatments, and ensuring a comfortable, safe environment for patients receiving infusions related to gastrointestinal (GI) conditions.

The ideal candidate will have experience in infusion therapy and be passionate about providing excellent patient care in a specialized GI setting.

Travel to and work from our Monroe Endoscopy Center is also required when schedule demands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer Infusion Therapy: Perform intravenous (IV) infusions, including biologics, antibiotics, iron therapy, and other medications commonly used in the management of GI disorders.
  • Patient Monitoring: Monitor patients during infusion therapy, including assessing vital signs, allergic reactions, and side effects, and providing appropriate interventions as needed.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients and families on infusion procedures, medication regimens, potential side effects, and post-treatment care.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the gastroenterology team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and medical assistants, to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, documenting infusions, reactions, and follow-up care in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Patient Comfort and Safety: Ensure a positive patient experience by providing a calm, empathetic, and supportive environment during the infusion process. Adhere to safety protocols and infection control procedures.
  • Inventory Management: Manage infusion supplies, including ordering, stocking, and ensuring that medications and equipment are available and ready for patient use.
  • Quality Assurance: Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance infusion therapy outcomes and patient satisfaction.
  • Safety: Maintains a clear focus on patient safety in every interaction with every patient. Follow and comply with all safety policies. Actively participate in workplace improvement to maintain a patient service excellence environment
  • Regulatory Standards: Adheres to all industry standards related to infection control, patient confidentiality, and regulatory and accrediting body's requirements (i.e. HIPAA, OSHA, and AAAHC).
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required.   • Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid state license.
  • Infusion Certification preferred (e.g., CRNI – Certified Registered Nurse Infusion).
  • Experience: At least 1-2 years of nursing experience, with a focus on infusion therapy preferred. Experience in a GI, oncology, or similar medical specialty is a plus.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of intravenous therapies, medications commonly used in GI treatments, and clinical procedures.
  • Skills: Excellent interpersonal communication, strong organizational abilities, and the ability to handle complex medical situations with professionalism and care.
  • BLS/CPR Certification required.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Compassionate and patient-focused approach to care.
