Position Summary


A clinical competent registered professional nurse who delivers patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Delegates and coordinates the nursing care provided to patients in the Oncology Department and throughout the health system. Performs duties as a clinical nurse specializing in intravenous access for chemotherapy medications, blood and other blood product administration and other miscellaneous procedures. Effectively interacts with the patient, significant others, and health care team members while maintaining the standards of professional nursing. Attend internal and external meetings to keep current with literature.  Accountable to patient and family for care provided and to the Oncology Manger for totality of work performance. 
 


Responsibilities



  • Evaluate patient care outcomes utilizing Quality Improvement process



  • Recognize and provide appropriate intervention to medically unstable patients.



  • Monitor and ensure the accurate and timely completion of physician orders.



  • Safely and accurately administer medications within the scope of RN practice.



  • Acquire and maintain current knowledge of all equipment and procedures generally used in the care of med/surg patients.



  • Supports the inpatient nursing staff when chemotherapy treatments are ordered.



  • Assist Manager with collection of PI data.



  • Assess and provide care and support for adult patients.



  • Assessment and supervision of care provided by unlicensed staff.



  • Ensure departmental documents are in control.


Requirements



  • Current R.N. licensure for Ohio and maintenance.



  • Acquire 18 CMEs related to Oncology every 3 years to maintain knowledge of new equipment, treatments and procedures and to meet accreditation requirements.



  • Current CPR card and maintenance.



  • Proficient in use of Epic system for patient information



  • Document/communicate pertinent information regarding patient condition.

  • Operate office-related equipment.



  • Take and pass the Fundamentals of Chemo/Immunotherapy Certification within 3 months of hire in Oncology, the ONS/ONCC Chemo/Immunotherapy Certification with 24 months of hire in Oncology, and the OCN Certification after 24 months of hire and 2,000 hours.  Continue certification maintenance.

  • Work independently

  • LMH is accredited by DNV and TJC, and as such, may require specific annual education related to specialty certifications and standards.
