Job Description - Inside Sales & Purchasing Specialist

Forward Slash Technology is a St. Louis-based Cyber Security, Information Technology, and Managed Services Provider (MSP) offering comprehensive IT, voice, and data services to small and mid-sized businesses across the Midwest area. Our clients rely on us for proactive infrastructure management, security best practices, and thoughtful technology strategy. With a reputation for responsiveness, precision, and partnership, we aim to empower our clients to grow confidently in a connected world.

We are a collaborative team of professionals who believe in high-touch, white glove service, continuous learning, and operational excellence. We value integrity, ownership, and a proactive approach to solving problems — both internally and on behalf of our clients.

We’re looking for a detail-oriented, client-focused professional to join our team in a role that blends inside sales with procurement and vendor management. This role combines inside sales for standard product needs with procurement and vendor management. The Inside Sales & Purchasing Specialist will be responsible for quoting predefined product bundles (workstations, monitors, cameras, access points, etc.) with known labor rates, and upon client approval, executing procurement and inventory management. Project-based quoting (e.g., surveillance systems, door access controls) is handled by a separate team.

What You’ll Do As Inside Sales

  • Handle inbound inquiries for standard IT products and services.

  • Prepare and issue quotes using predefined product lists and labor rates within a specific timeframe.

  • Send quotes to clients, track approvals, and update records in ticketing/ERP systems.

  • Cross-sell related parts and services where appropriate.

  • Build strong relationships with clients and suppliers while supporting our operations team.

Procurement & Inventory

  • Source and procure IT hardware/software from approved distributors (e.g., Ingram Micro, Tech Data).

  • Issue purchase orders, negotiating costs, lead times, and delivery schedules.

  • Monitor inventory levels, forecast demand, and ensure timely availability of parts.

  • Maintain accurate records of client accounts, purchases, supplier contacts, part numbers, pricing, and delivery documentation.

  • Manage returns, RMAs, and contract-related documentation.

  • Suggest and implement supplier/vendor improvements to optimize cost, quality, and delivery.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 2+ years of purchasing/procurement experience

  • Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP, NetSuite, or equivalent)

  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks

  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently

  • Strong relationship management and vendor negotiation skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders at all levels

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field

  • 2–4 years’ experience in purchasing, manufacturing, or warehouse environment

  • 1–3 years of experience with IT-related hardware, software, and related services

  • Knowledge of IT hardware/software procurement processes

  • Strong analytical and presentation skills

Physical Demand

  • Sit or stand for periods of time.

  • Reach, stoop, or kneel.

  • Lift and carry hardware and boxes that may weigh 50 pounds or more.

Compliance & Background Requirements

To maintain employment with our company, by mandate, each employee MUST

  • Be a U.S. Citizen and hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • Pass a MSHP/Federal fingerprint-based background check.

  • Complete the CJIS Security & Privacy Training Certification.
