Job Description - Inside Sales Representative

Description

Position Summary:

GEM Manufacturing is looking for a proactive, technically capable, and detail oriented Inside Sales Representative to join our Waterbury, CT team. This position plays a key role in ensuring quotes are accurate, costed effectively, and followed up on promptly to secure new business. The ideal candidate will excel in customer engagement, technical problem-solving, and working closely with internal teams to deliver results in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Functions:

Key Responsibilities: 

         1. Quoting & Costing:

              a. Create quotes and send to customers based on engineering estimates and specifications.

          2. Customer Engagement:

              a. Consistently follow up on quotes, address customer inquiries, and work to close new business opportunities.

          3. CRM Management:

               a. Keep the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system updated with opportunities, follow-ups, and sales activities to maintain an accurate pipeline.

          4. Technical Support:

              a. Work with customers to understand their needs and provide practical, effective solutions tailored to their requirements

          5. Print Analysis:

              a. Review and interpret technical prints to ensure specifications are met. Familiarity with GD&T is preferred but not required.

          6. Internal Coordination:

               a. Work directly with engineering and production teams to ensure customer needs are met accurately and efficiently.

          7. Relationship Building:

               a. Build strong, professional relationships with customers while identifying additional opportunities for growth.

          8. Pipeline & Lead Management:

               a. Monitor leads, prioritize follow-ups, and drive conversions to meet sales goals.

           9. Sales Reporting:

               a. Provide updates on quoting status, customer feedback, and sales performance to management.

         10. Order Acceptance:

                a. Utilize web-based portals to retrieve customer orders, review and approve them, track status and expedite delivery as necessary.

Non-essential Responsibilities: 

           1. Performs other duties as directed.

Requirements

  

Position Qualifications and Competency Statements:

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret technical prints. GD&T knowledge is a plus but not required.
  • CRM Skills: Experience using CRM tools to track opportunities and maintain a pipeline.
  • Communication: Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills, capable of breaking down technical details for customers.
  • Organization: Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Customer-Driven: Persistent and solution-oriented approach to meeting customer needs and winning new business.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work closely with other departments to ensure customer satisfaction and achieve shared goals.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or a related field preferred but not required if experience aligns.
  • Experience: Experience in inside sales or sales engineering, preferably in manufacturing.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with manufacturing processes like Deep Draw Progressive Stamping, CNC, EDM, and Swiss Machining.
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with 3D modeling software is a plus.
  • Excel Expertise: Highly advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, data tables, accelerator keys, and other advanced functions to improve efficiency and manage data effectively.

Work Environment:

This position involves working in a manufacturing environment that is adjacent to the shop work environment. The employee must be aware of potential hazards, including, but not limited to, working in close proximity to moving mechanical parts, operating vehicles, exposure to electrical current, high temperatures, and chemicals. It's important to maintain a high level of alertness and caution while performing tasks in this work environment.
