We’re looking for a NJSAT HMA Technologist Level 2 to support our expanding portfolio of transportation and infrastructure projects. In this role, you’ll play a key part in ensuring quality, compliance, and performance of hot-mix asphalt (HMA) materials through field inspection, testing, and quality assurance activities.

  • Perform field testing of asphalt materials, including sampling and verification of mix properties

  • Operate nuclear density gauges (Troxler or Humboldt) to verify in-place compaction and density

  • Submit daily inspection reports within <24 hours

  • Maintain 90%+ completion of all assigned safety training

  • Target zero avoidable safety or equipment incidents

  • Submit 98% of draft reports within 8 hours — with minimal revisions

  • Maintain 95% on-time site check-in/check-out

  • Less than 1 serious issue per quarter related to inspection, measuring, or testing equipment due to technician error, maintenance issues, or lost/damaged equipment

Documentation & Quality Records

  • Maintain accurate inspection and testing records using AEIS digital reporting tools

  • Review and verify test results, mix designs, and material certifications

  • Ensure compliance with DOT specifications, ASTM, and AASHTO standards

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and QA/QC Specialists

  • Contribute to lessons-learned discussions and workflow improvements

  • Support resolution of field-related quality issues in asphalt production and placement

What We're Looking For

  • NJSAT HMA Technologist Level 2 Certification (required or preferred depending on project needs)

  • 2+ years of experience in asphalt inspection and materials testing

  • Experience operating nuclear density gauges (Troxler or Humboldt)

  • Familiarity with hot-mix asphalt production, paving operations, and compaction control

  • Knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, and state DOT asphalt testing standards

  • Willingness to travel to active project sites

  • Strong emphasis on mentorship, safety, and technical development

Salary Range: $27–$32/hour
