Institutional Giving Manager

The Brotherhood Sister Sol (BroSis)  is a social justice youth development organization that since 1995 has been a place where Black and Latinx youth claim the power of their history, identity and community to build the future they want to see. By educating, organizing and training, we are challenging inequity and creating opportunity for all.

BroSis provides holistic and long-term support services to youth who range in age from eight to twenty-two. BroSis offers wrap-around evidence-based programming such as four-six year rites of passage programming, thorough five-day a week after school care, school and home counseling, summer camps, job training, college preparation, employment opportunities, community organizing training, and month-long international study programs to Africa and Latin America. Based in Harlem, NY but with a national reach, we publish assorted curricula and collections of our members’ writings; train educators from throughout the nation on our approach; and organize and advocate for social change. BroSis has earned national recognition for our evidence-based model, receiving an array of awards and funding from a host of national funders, including Marlene Nathan Meyerson Foundation, Charles Hayden Foundation, NBA Foundation, Kraft Heinz, New York Community Trust, Comic Relief/Red Nose Day, William Stamps Farish Foundation, and more. 

The organization has over 50 full-time staff, serves thousands throughout New York City, and has a $12 million dollar operating budget. In addition, we have just moved into our new building - a 22,000 square foot state-of-the-art beacon for youth development. It is an exciting period of organizational growth and increased impact in our community and beyond.

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Brotherhood Sister Sol seeks a dynamic development professional with a proven successful track record to significantly grow and steward our foundation and government fundraising efforts. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the ideal candidate will apply creativity, innovation, strategy, and exceptional writing skills to communicate BroSis’ impact and needs in a clear, concise, and compelling manner. This role has extensive inter- and cross-department collaboration.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising

• Research, prospect and qualify NYC, NYS & Federal government & local and national foundation funding opportunities to meet annual opportunity goals that uncovers the potential for $1M+ in new support each year;


• Identify and prepare research briefs on existing and prospective funders;


• Work with Program and Finance staff to write compelling applications, letters of intent, and proposals and develop budgets;


• Proactively monitor foundation and philanthropy news, including RFPs, foundation press releases, website updates and announcements, and trends in institutional giving;


• Work with Evaluation and Program staff to secure necessary qualitative and quantitative information;

Cultivation and Stewardship

• Manage the current $5M+ portfolio; own the moves management process for each funder in portfolio, ensuring timely communications and key actions/notes are completed and tracked in donor files and Raiser’s Edge;


• Interface with foundation funders - along with Executive Directors (ED), CDO, and Development Director; 


• Interface with government relation firms and elected officials – along with ED and CDO;


• Prepare presentations and other communications for cultivation of institutional donors;


• Work with Marketing and Communications to create content for institutional donors’ newsletter;


• Work with Data Analytics Associate to maintain accuracy of source of income data.

Operations

• Weekly reporting on efforts to outcomes to CDO;


• Manage deadlines for proposals and reports in database;


• Work with Data Analytics Associate to maintain applicable donor records and giving histories;


• Support all fundraising activities of BroSis – foundation, special events, government, corporate and individual;


• Perform other duties as assigned by the ED and CDO as needed.


• Supervision


• Supervise the Grants and Contract Associate to ensure that the grants calendar is proactively managed, the monitoring of compliance with grant deliverables and outcomes, and that interim and final reports are handled in a timely manner;

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field;


• Minimum of 5 years nonprofit fundraising and grant writing experience with track record of stewarding/raising $5M+ portfolio;


• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on management experience; 


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively; 


• Exceptional critical thinking skills - proficiency in research and analysis, with the ability to identify funding opportunities and assess their alignment with organizational priorities;


• Experience in financial management, including budgeting and financial reporting;


• Highly entrepreneurial, self-motivated, resourceful and flexible;


• Must be able to interact well with a variety of internal and external constituents, particularly youth;


• Must be able to work well under pressure and in open-stationed work environment;


• Effective project management skills - organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, while meeting deadlines;


• Can-do attitude and willing to work hands-on in developing and executing a variety of fundraising activities;


• Hard working, team oriented, able to take direction and guidance and implement and work independently;


• Computer literacy required, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite software;


• Experience with Raiser’s Edge database preferred. Training will be provided as part of the onboarding process;

BENEFITS: 

At The Brotherhood Sister Sol, we offer competitive salaries with a comprehensive benefits package including, employer funded health, dental, vision, and life insurance, 3% employer contribution to 403(b) retirement account. Staff are entitled to four weeks' vacation; as well as quarterly personal days; and office closure during Winter Break that is approximately 8 vacation days in addition to Christmas and New Year's Day as well as 9 additional paid holidays and 8 sick days; equating to about 10 weeks of PTO per annum.

BroSis offers a competitive salary commensurate with relevant experience with the potential for an annual performance-based increase. The incoming salary range for this position is $95,000 to $100,000 per year. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary closer to the start of the range depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. All staff are eligible for annual performance-based increases. Because we value staff tenure in each role, we do not currently cap salary ranges.
