Job Description - Institutional Giving Manager

Position Summary


The Institutional Giving Manager is responsible for securing and stewarding a diversified portfolio of foundation, corporate, and public funding in support of the organization’s programs.  This role leads grant strategy and execution across private funders, ensuring strong revenue performance, compliance, and alignment with program outcomes and organizational priorities. While the focus of the role initially will be on private institutions, the position will entail increasing responsibilities over time with regards to government funding.


 


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES


 


Institutional Fundraising & Strategy



  • Manage and grow a blended portfolio of foundation and corporate funders.

  • Develop and execute an annual institutional fundraising plan aligned with revenue targets and program priorities.

  • Research and identify new institutional funding opportunities aligned with UBH and its programs, while prioritizing prospects and executing end-to-end engagement strategies—including cultivation, solicitation, recognition, and stewardship—to advance the funding pipeline.

  • Balance short-term revenue with long-term sustainability through renewals and multi-year grants.


 


Grant Writing & Proposal Management



  • Lead the full grant lifecycle: LOIs, proposals, renewals, amendments, and reports.



  • Coordinate requirements and align key staff contributors, providing proposal status updates at review meetings and ensuring all documents are completed accurately and on deadline.



  • Write clear, compelling, and funder-aligned proposals that articulate program impact, outcomes, and community need.

  • Serve as a collaborator in preparation of public grants.

  • Coordinate closely with program and finance teams to develop accurate budgets, narratives, and compliance materials.

  • Ensure proposals meet all funder requirements, deadlines, and internal review standards.



Funder Stewardship & Relationship Management



  • Serve as primary point of contact for institutional funders, namely, foundations, with a secondary responsibility for cultivating corporate prospects including those without public-facing foundations.



  • Develop and implement cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans for assigned portfolio.



  • Coordinate funder communications, site visits, and impact reporting.

  • Partner with leadership to prepare briefing materials and talking points for funder meetings.


 


Cross-Functional Collaboration & Compliance



  • Partner with program leadership to track outcomes and program performance tied to private funding.

  • Partner with finance to ensure accurate budgets, reporting, and funder compliance.



  • Cultivate internal relationships to most effectively raise support for UBH funding priorities.



  • Support organizational leadership with briefing materials for funder meetings and presentations.

  • Work with leadership in positioning the organization for strategic funding opportunities.

  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; maintaining professional networks.


Data, Tracking & Reporting



  • Maintain data for assigned portfolio in CRM, including call reports, proposals, deliverables, report deadlines and stewardship activities.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of an annual fundraising calendar.



  • Monitor pipeline performance, submission success rates, and funding trends.

  • Provide regular institutional revenue forecasts and progress reports.

  • Attend UBH events and support additional duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor’s Degree required.

  • At least 5 years’ professional grant writing experience preferably for medium to large nonprofit organizations (>$5 million annual budget) in health and human services. Experience in homelessness grant writing is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing relationships with private foundations required.

  • Knowledge of Los Angeles, Southern California foundation funding community preferred.

  • Previous experience with a capital campaign, national foundations, and/or human services funding preferred.

  • Successful track record of securing five and six figure grants from local, regional and national foundations and corporations.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to foster strong working relationships with internal and external constituents.

  • Passion for homelessness and commitment to UBH’s mission and programs.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills - ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, set and manage priorities, and meet deadlines and goals.

  • Proficiency with office technology and information systems (including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and donor databases, preferably Salesforce.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and fundraising databases, and appropriate web-based applications and services.

  • Ability to work productively with a variety of people; collaborative spirit.

  • Experience developing program and project budgets required for proposal submission.
