SUMMARY: Under the direction of a licensed staff member, assist students by helping individuals or small groups of students with basic curriculum work, implementing programming, reinforcing learning skills, and reinforcing discipline procedures. Assist classroom teachers by preparing classroom materials, monitoring students, and evaluating and recording student achievement. Safely using tools (both hand and power), measuring, cutting, building, planning etc. Candidates must be comfortable with all manner of lifting, squatting, climbing, and walking. A candidate does not have to possess an extensive construction background, however, one is helpful. Possession of an OSHA 10 certification is required.


 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following tasks describe the basic functions of the job and represent the type of work performed. They do not constitute an exhaustive list of the duties and responsibilities performed on the job. The following frequencies and percentage of time spent are approximations only.



  • Assist classroom teachers in preparing materials, administering tests, grading, attendance, etc. Assist with paperwork and documentation as needed. [Daily, 30%]

  • Assist students with classroom activities. Assist with curriculum delivery to both individuals and small groups to ensure mastering of subjects. [Daily, 30%]

  • Perform basic clerical work for the classroom teacher, including typing, stapling, filing, duplicating, taking inventory, scheduling repairs and maintenance, data entry, word processing, laminating, ordering supplies, placing phone calls, materials distribution, and light bookkeeping. [Daily, 10%]

  • Assist with other classroom events, such as field trips or fire drills, as necessary. [Monthly, 5%]

  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. [Daily, 5%]


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • No experience required, however, construction background is helpful.

  • Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  • Intermediate English language skills.

  • Intermediate oral and written communication skills.

  • Advanced interpersonal relations skills.

  • Advanced organizational skills.

  • Ability to work alone and with others.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage simultaneous demands and set clear priorities.

  • Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.

  • Ability to work one-on-one and in small groups with students.

  • Promotes a positive climate, culture, and community

  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire.


REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:


All certifications, licenses, and registrations must be valid and unexpired.



  • OSHA 10-Hour Workplace Safety Training certification.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Associate’s degree.   

  • Classroom/instructional work in an educational setting, licensed teaching, construction, infrastructure, or engineering experience.

  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • CPR and First Aid certifications.

  • Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement.


PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:



  • Moderate physical effort.

  • Lifting up to 25 pounds.

  • Frequent bending, reaching, and climbing.

  • Eye/hand coordination (e.g., typing, ten key).

  • Visual concentration.

  • Concentrated reading/writing/mathematics.

  • Prolonged standing and walking.

  • Squatting.

  • Overhead work.

  • Occasional lifting, pulling, and/or pushing.

  • Normal school district environment.

  • May work outdoors when monitoring student activities.
