Position: Instructional Leader

Compensation: $26.00 per hour

Days: Monday - Friday

Hours will fall within the hours of operation: 6:45 a.m. -5:45 pm

Full Time Benefited position - 37.5 hours per week

Position Summary: The Instructional Leader oversees and monitors the effectiveness of teaching practices, classroom management strategies and helps to facilitate positive interactions with children. Keeps abreast of trends in the industry and shares information with teachers and management. Serves as the program expert in curriculum design and implementation. Performs duties in a manner that fosters the achievement of the organizations mission to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.


Requirements

Essential Functions/Position Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the site consistently meets the Office of Early Childhood and NAEYC health and safety standards;
  • Ensure that staff are utilizing the Name to Face Accountability to ensure the safety and well being of children;
  • Follow defined State and YWCA protocols for reporting suspect child abuse or neglect, to include documentation, notification of OEC, NAEYC and DCF when applicable;
  • Over see the planning and implementation of age appropriate educational programs at a site level;
  • Review and monitor curriculum and lesson plan development and implementation;
  • Monitor children’s progress to ensure activities are meeting the students educational and developmental needs;
  • Review individual child observations, assessments and family conference forms to ensure adherence to the Intentional Teaching cycle and developmentally appropriate practice;
  • Ensure staff adherence to YWCA Positive Guidance Policy and the Atypical Behavior process;
  • Attend and participate in all Inclusion Support Plan meetings with families, staff and outside agencies, to include proper documentation;
  • Implementation of all Inclusion Support plans and support families and staff as they work with the child or work with the Inclusion Support Specialist with the implementation of all Inclusion Support plans;
  • Oversee program staff and perform monthly observation and evaluation, to include documentation and tracking of evaluations;
  • Monitor the consistent application of defined YWCA statements, policies and procedures;
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with and ongoing achievement of state licensing, NAEYC accreditation and school readiness standards;
  • Provide accurate and timely performance feedback and coaching to staff. Identify performance improvement needs and work with Site Managers to create corrective actions and/or staff development plans;
  • Provide guidance and assistance to staff in the delivery of high quality programs and services;
  • Confer with staff regarding professional growth and work with them to develop and accomplish goals. Evaluate results;
  • Address and support teachers with professional development opportunities to include college registration, applying for student loans and seeking out grant and financial aid opportunities;
  • Assist in planning and providing effective staff development activities;
  • Plan, implement and evaluate instructional programs with teachers, including learning objectives, instructional strategies and assessment techniques;
  • Provide leadership to ensure the highest standards of instructional service and classroom effectiveness;
  • Prioritize the needs of teachers and develops credible and trusting relationships;
  • Provide prompt and attentive support while quickly and effectively helping staff to find solutions to problems related to their development;
  • Clearly and effectively communicate information to teachers;
  • Prioritizes needs of staff, children, and families and is dedicated to meeting their expectations;
  • Shares views in a tactful way;
  • Demonstrates diplomacy by approaching others about sensitive issues in non-threatening ways and fosters an environment conductive to open and transparent communication;
  • Attends trainings, seminars, and does research to keep up with the latest information and best practices within the field;

Required Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelors degree in early childhood education, psychology or related field; including a minimum of 12 credits in early childhood education;
  2. Minimum 5 years of related experience in child development program including a minimum of 3 years in head teacher capacity;
  3. Knowledge of state licensing an accreditation guidelines;
  4. Knowledge of and the ability to use Microsoft Office software application including Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.
  5. Certified CPR/First Aid certification or the ability to obtain certification within
  6. Basic knowledge of the principles of Child Development;
  7. Demonstrated ability to develop age appropriate exhibits and activities for the classroom;
  8. CPR/First Aid certification or certification within two months of employment.
