Job Description - Instrument and Controls Technician (PLC)

GovFirst is seeking to hire multiple Instrument and Controls Technicians (PLC) to support operations and maintenance activities in various locations across Virginia which includes Bristol, Fredericksburg, Hampton Roads, Norfolk, Newport News, Suffolk, Surry, Salem, Lynchburg, Staunton, Culpeper & Richmond, VA within the Transportation Operations Division. These technicians will be responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and calibrating instrumentation and control systems associated with critical facility operations.


Key Responsibilities:

Instrumentation & Controls Maintenance

  • Troubleshoot and repair instrumentation and control systems linked to SCADA, power distribution, lighting, ventilation, pumping, and motor control systems.

  • Interpret control drawings, schematics, ladder logic, diagrams, plans, and specifications to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.

  • Perform visual inspections and monitor operating conditions to ensure proper functionality.

System Installation & Calibration

  • Install, adjust, test, repair, and calibrate electric, electronic, and mechanical control systems.

  • Conduct preventive maintenance activities and assist with complex diagnostics to analyze system problems.

Advanced Diagnostics & Communication

  • Utilize test equipment including electronic meters, simulators, and software applications for troubleshooting.

  • Work with configuration and communication protocols for plant control, networking, and SCADA systems.



Requirements

Qualifications:

  • At least two years of experience in the repair, installation, maintenance, and calibration of instrumentation and system control equipment.

  • A two-year technical degree preferred but not required.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills in instrumentation and control systems.

  • Ability to interpret complex technical diagrams and schematics.

  • Skilled in using diagnostic tools and software for system analysis.
