Job Description - Intake Operator - 1st Shift

SUMMARY 


The Intake Operator is responsible for overseeing the receiving and shipping of milk and by-products, screening milk for quality, and coordinating transfers for cheese production. The role also ensures the cleanliness, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of the Intake area and related equipment. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 


 



  • Milk Transfer and Screening: 


    • Transfers raw milk from tank trucks into the appropriate milk silos using centrifugal pumps. 

    • Tests incoming raw milk loads for antibiotics, titratable acidity, and temperature, following company and Wisconsin State regulations. 

    • Follows protocols for handling and documenting positive antibiotic milk loads. 


  • Sanitation and Cleaning: 


    • Washes and sanitizes the interior of tank trucks, tanker lids, vents, and gaskets using both CIP systems and manual methods. 

    • Cleans and sanitizes milk silos and lines, maintaining accurate records of CIP activities. 

    • Ensures all Intake equipment is cleaned and sanitized per the master cleaning schedule. 

    • Support and maintain a clean and sanitary work environment by performing routine and thorough cleaning tasks throughout the plant, including but not limited to rinsing, scrubbing, and following Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) protocols. 


  • Lab and Testing: 


    • Oversees all aspects of the Intake Lab, particularly antibiotic testing equipment. 

    • Conducts antibiotic tests on farm milk samples, maintains records, and communicates results to relevant farms. 

    • Trains and certifies other Intake Operators on antibiotic testing procedures. 


  • Silo Management: 


    • Manages and schedules the rotation and usage of milk silos to ensure optimal efficiency. 


  • Communication and Coordination: 


    • Communicates effectively with field representatives, milk haulers, cheese makers, and family farms to relay important information. 

    • Tracks and schedules the load-outs for Grade A and other milk deliveries. 


  • Additional Responsibilities: 


    • Loads cream, milk, and whey trucks, documenting the necessary information. 

    • Performs sanitation of load-out equipment and maintains the Intake CIP system. 

    • Maintains CIP circle chart graphs for milk silos and other equipment as required. 

    • Immediately reports any food safety or quality issues to management or authorized personnel. 


  • Safety and Compliance: 


    • Complies with all Safety, HACCP, and GMP policies. 

    • Anticipates needs, troubleshoots issues, and problem-solving as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 


High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. 


Experience in manufacturing, food manufacturing preferred. 


 


OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES\ 



  • Knowledge of operator interfaces to control automated equipment.  

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written 

  • Good computer and mechanical skills 

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, recording charts and procedure manuals. 

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in several units of measure, such as gallons, ounces, and pounds, using whole numbers and decimals. 

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

On-site at the Antigo Creamery location.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Furthermore, the Team Member often works in confined or restrictive work areas and is often exposed to truck fumes along with other forms of exhaust while working in the Intake Bay. The Team Member is always exposed to various hazards in a typical workday. These hazards can include: moving mechanical parts, toxic and/or caustic chemicals used for cleaning and working on top of milk trucks that enter the Intake Bay. Due to the usually loud noise levels, ear protection may be required.  


 


Overtime and weekend work required. 


 


TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED 


While performing the duties of this job, the Team Members may be required to work with a CIP system, antibiotic test equipment, hammers, PH meter, titration equipment, hand tools, gas test meter, and other equipment as needed. 


 


PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED 


Personal protective equipment that is required when working with hazardous materials or loud equipment includes: safety goggles, rubber or latex gloves, lab coat and hearing protection.  Other recommended PPE includes face shield, chemical resistant apron and steel toe shoes/boots. Team Members are also required to wear a fall arrest, full body, safety harness. This harness must be used and secured to a properly anchored retractable tether when standing on tankers.  See Chemical Hygiene Plan for details.
