We have an exciting opportunity for an Intake Therapist to join our team of talented professionals.  This position will work out of both Southgate and Detroit locations 

We have a market-based compensation structure. The estimated salary for this position will vary based on a candidate's transferable work experience and qualifications. This is a salary grade 107 (limited license) starting at $52,026 or 108 (full license) starting at $56,355 and increases with relevant experience. 

As an Intake Therapist in the Kids-TALK CAC Program, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Conduct intake assessments to identify areas of need and service preferences and complete documentation within 48 hours.
  • Gather and integrate information from all available sources at the time of intake, including consumer self-reports, reports from family members, guardians, and Foster Care Providers, documented medical and treatment history, needs surveys, assessments from other disciplines, etc.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of trauma focused interventions, seek training opportunities, and utilize evidence-based practice whenever possible.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to assess and articulate the motivation of families to address specific needs identified during the assessment process.
  • Provide family members and guardians with complete and accurate information regarding each of the services and supports available to meet needs identified during the assessment process.
  • Assist families with initiating the person-centered planning process (consistent with principles of Person-Centered Planning, Self-Determination and current Medicaid Guidelines).
  • Develop Safety Plans as circumstances require based on needs identified during the assessment process.
  • Work collaboratively with others in relation to the child and family including psychiatrists, primary care physicians, Wraparound facilitators, school personnel and other family service or support people.
  • Provide referrals for services and community resources as needed.
  • Assess client satisfaction and participate in program evaluation as needed.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, team meetings and case consultations.
  • Complete clinical documentation in a timely manner consistent with policies and procedures of the Guidance Center.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the needs of the clients and the program.
  • Complete all required annual trainings, including 24 hours of training specific to children or adolescents, at least 10 hours of which is specific to child maltreatment or trauma.
  • Obtain TF-CBT certification, MichiCANS Orientation, Overview, and Action Planning training. In addition, obtain and pass MichiCANS annual booster training.
  • Effectively monitor referral calls/ emails and respond in a timely manner.
  • Make referrals to Child Protective Services and Adult Protective Services as needed.
  • Schedule, complete and/or assign intakes (including all necessary opening paperwork).
  • Work in conjunction with other departments within Kids-TALK CAC and The Guidance Center to ensure collaborative, efficient, and effective service delivery for children and families while working to identify and eliminate barriers to services as needed.
  • Abide by all Guidance Center AND Kids-TALK CAC policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

To qualify for this position, you will need the following:

  • Must have a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work or Counseling and possess and maintain the corresponding state of Michigan licensure (LMSW, LLMSW, LPC, LLPC, TLLP, LP). 
  • Must meet Michigan Department of Community Health requirements of a Child Mental Health Professional (CHMP) and Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP) within 120 days of hire.  
  • Must have at a minimum of one (1) year of experience in the examination, evaluation and treatment of minors and their families.  
  • Must be able to engage and maintain therapeutic relationships with families and develop collaborative relationship with our providers.  
  • Able to assess and intervene within complex family and community systems and the wiliness to be flexible, patient and creative. 
  • Knowledge of child welfare and juvenile justice systems is preferred. 
  • Knowledge on the impact of trauma is preferred. 
  • Spanish-speaking bilingual candidates will be given priority consideration.
  • Additional requirements include: working knowledge of trauma-focused therapy, cultural awareness, ability to work effectively with a diverse population, the ability to engage and maintain therapeutic relationships with children and families in a variety of modes of treatment, the ability to develop collaborative relationships with other unit staff and providers, effective organizational and communication skills, and a willingness to be flexible.
