Intake Triager

Position Overview

The Intake Triager position is responsible for reviewing, validating, and processing incoming referral documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance prior to order entry and clinical review. This role serves as a critical quality checkpoint within the intake workflow by ensuring all required patient, provider, insurance, and medication information is present before referrals move to the next stage of the specialty pharmacy process.

This position will collaborate with providers, referral sources, patient care coordinators, pharmacists, and reimbursement specialists to resolve missing or inaccurate information while maintaining productivity, quality, and regulatory standards.

Work Schedule 

Location: Laguna Hills, CA (On-site position; remote work is not available at this time.) Training will take place in Orange for the first four weeks, after which the position will transition to the Laguna Hills office upon successful completion of training.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:30am-6:00pm

Pay Range: $23 - $25 Hourly, DOE

Key Responsibilities

Document Review

• Review all incoming referrals received via fax, electronic prescribing (eRx), portals, secure emails


• Verify referrals are legible, complete, and meet intake requirements.


• Ensure all required documentation has been received prior to processing.


• Organize referral documents according to company workflow standards.


• Identify duplicate referrals and merge documentation appropriately.


• Compare referral documentation against electronic medical records or intake systems.


• Verify medication names, strengths, directions, and quantities.


• Confirm provider information and National Provider Identifier (NPI).

Communication

• Communicate intake issues to pharmacists and supervisors.


• Escalate urgent or complex issues appropriately to the manager.
  

Quality Assurance

• Perform quality review before referrals advance to order entry.


• Ensure compliance with accreditation standards (URAC, ACHC, or other applicable organizations).


• Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.


• Follow SOPs and departmental workflows.


• Participate in quality improvement initiatives.

System Documentation

• Accurately document review activities in the CPR+ pharmacy management system.


• Maintain accurate referral status updates.     

Qualifications

• Minimum 1–2 years of specialty pharmacy, medical office, healthcare administration, or medical records experience.


• Experience reviewing medical documentation preferred.


• Knowledge of pharmacy terminology and medical abbreviations.


• Familiarity with pharmacy management software (CPR+ or similar system preferred).


• Attention to detail and accurate data entry skills.


• Foster a culture of accountability, integrity, collaboration, and service excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

• Pharmacy field experience.


• Working knowledge of specialty medications.


• Understanding of specialty medication workflows.


• Experience with electronic health records (EHR/EMR).


• Experience working with biologics and limited distribution drugs.


• Understanding of pharmacy regulations and HIPAA requirements.
