Intellectual Property Patent Agent

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Patent Agent to join the Intellectual Property group of a prominent Am Law 100 firm. This position is available in one of the firm’s offices located in Chicago, Denver, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., or Wilmington. The role offers a hybrid work model with 2 to 3 days onsite.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patent preparation and prosecution with a focus on electrical engineering, computer science, or software technologies. This is an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies, including AI and machine learning.

Key Responsibilities:

• Drafting and prosecuting patent applications for electrical, software, and computer science technologies
• Collaborating with attorneys and clients to provide strategic advice in all aspects of patent preparation
• Conducting patentability analyses and providing opinions on patent rights and infringement issues
• Assisting with patent office correspondence and managing portfolios of patent applications
• Working with the firm’s diverse IP team to support complex, technology-driven patent prosecution
• Engaging with clients to understand their technological innovations and drafting clear, concise patent claims

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
• 2+ years of experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications
• USPTO registration (required)
• Experience with AI and machine learning technologies is preferred
• Strong academic credentials
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Motivated, collaborative, and comfortable in a client-focused, team-oriented environment
• Stable resume with no significant gaps or contract/temp positions

Salary & Benefits:

• Base Salary: $110,000 – $180,000, commensurate with experience and location
