Founded in 1909 and affiliated with the Episcopal Church, The Bishop’s School is an independent, all gender college-preparatory day school for 800 students in grades six through twelve located on a historic campus in the heart of La Jolla, just 10 miles north of downtown San Diego. Compensation: $51/hour-$56/hour

Position Summary Description

The Bishop’s School seeks a full-time, interim assistant director of admissions (leave replacement) beginning January 5, 2026 with an expected end date in April 2026. The interim assistant director of admissions will be joining a dynamic admissions team responsible for recruiting, selecting and enrolling a talented group of middle and high school students. This person will have the opportunity to be the face of the School while engaging with prospective families. They will be responsible for being a positive and professional representative of the School, interviewing prospective students on campus or virtually, answering questions from prospective parents/guardians, and writing interview reports in a timely manner. They will also be responsible for reading and reviewing approximately 300 applications, participating in admissions committee meetings, and hosting events for newly admitted students and their families. Reporting to the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, this person will play a critical role in the assessment of a student’s candidacy; we have a thorough and holistic application review process, determining whether the prospective students and their families are mission- and values-aligned with the School.

Essential Functions and Specific Duties:

• Conduct individual and group interviews with prospective students and families in a professional and courteous manner.
• Foster a warm and inviting atmosphere for prospective students and their families, engaging with them to understand their backgrounds/interests and assessing their compatibility with the School community.
• Provide accurate and authentic answers to questions from prospective students and their families about the School's academic and extracurricular programs, culture and community, and selection process.
• Document interviews promptly and thoroughly after each interview. Write-up should address the student’s/family’s potential fit with, and character and readiness for the School.
• Read and evaluate applicant files, assessing academic performance, personal qualities, and potential fit for the school, maintaining accurate notes and records.
• Maintain admissions records and update the admissions data base (e.g. Blackbaud, Veracross or similar).
• Participate in admissions committee discussions and contribute recommendations on admissions decisions.
• Ensure continuity of admissions operations, following established processes and timeline.
• Assist with the coordination of admissions events for newly admitted students and their families, including open houses, and campus tours.
• Manage communications with prospective families, ensuring timely and accurate follow-up.
• Maintain confidentiality and a high level of integrity in a highly-sensitive process.
• Exercise sound judgement in all admissions-related interactions. 
• Represent the school positively and professionally in all communications.
• Quickly acquire knowledge of the School’s academic and co-curricular offerings, while staying up to date on campus news.
• Provide support to the Director of Admissions and team to ensure no disruption in the admissions cycle.
• Maintain open communication with the Admissions Office Manager who schedules interviews and other meetings.
• Perform, with a team approach, other duties as assigned.

An Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degree preferred. 
• Familiarity with independent school or college/university admissions is strongly preferred.
• Experience in education, admissions, enrollment management, counseling, or related field.
• Ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds and age groups (grades 6- 12).
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
• A firm commitment to provide exemplary services in a demanding and fast-paced environment. 
• Intermediate proficiency with Google Workspace and Zoom.
• Proficiency with admissions databases preferred.
• Knowledge of The Bishop’s School is a plus.
• Other language fluency, such as Chinese or Spanish, is a plus.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, during admissions season.
