Job Description - Interim Controller

A closely held manufacturing company with international operations is seeking a hands-on Interim Controller to oversee accounting and reporting.

Location: Cool Springs, TN — 1 to 2 days onsite

Duration: 12 months at least

Schedule: Full-time for the first month, then approximately 20 hours per week

Strong interpersonal skills are the most important qualification. The successful candidate will be a confident communicator who can navigate conflict, handle direct feedback without taking it personally, and remain calm under pressure. This role requires someone willing to perform detailed accounting work—not simply oversee it.

Key Responsibilities

Manage month-end close, financial reporting, and cash flow forecasting.

Supervise a bookkeeper, reviewing reconciliations and other accounting work for accuracy and completeness.

Coordinate reporting across domestic and international operations, including foreign currency translation accounting.

Work in Sage MAS 500 and Excel to prepare largely manual reports, resolve discrepancies, and improve accounting processes and controls.

Qualifications

Controller-level experience with strong general ledger, reconciliation, and financial reporting skills.

Some foreign currency translation accounting experience is required.

Strong intermediate Excel skills, including VLOOKUP and XLOOKUP.

Sage MAS 500 experience is helpful.
