Reporting to the Athletics Director or designee, the Head Coach – Men’s Soccer is responsible for creating and developing a competitive two season men’s soccer program for Shaw University for the purpose of securing membership in an NCAA Division II conference (currently NCAA independent). This includes overall direction and management as well as day-to-day administrative and program management leadership; recruitment (including internationally), retention, and skills training, as it relates to developing competitive soccer programs. While developing competitive programs, the Head Coach is accountable for ensuring the teams’ compliance with NCAA and applicable conference rules and regulations to meet the requirements for conference admission and with University policies, procedures and budgetary constraints. The Head Coach will actively participate in fundraising endeavors and committee service as assigned. The position is accountable for ensuring effective personal management of subordinate personnel, collaboration with all campus and off-campus associates, and maintaining a student focus environment that will provide a positive student-athlete experience.
Essential Job Functions:
Administration of all aspects of a men’s soccer program, including scheduling all regular season, pre-season and off-season scrimmage games, identifying and securing practice and competition fields with local community, municipal or other universities, and setting up field conditions on game days and coordinating visiting team locker room facilities.
Responsible for creating and developing a competitive men’s soccer program, to include maintaining 30 or more student athletes, building the program for successful admission to and competition in, an NCAA Division II conference (currently NCAA independent with a possibility of securing an at-large post season bid).
Ensures the effective instruction of student athletes in the sport of soccer. Serves as an effective coach in the development of successful strategies for Soccer competition and the reinforcement of student athletes’ character development, personal motivation and leadership.
Ensures effective recruitment of student athletes for the Soccer program, with an emphasis on international recruiting.
Identification and cultivation of relationships with prospective Division II conferences recognizing soccer as a conference sport.
Adheres to all institutional, applicable conference and all other rules, regulations and policies.
Assists in fundraising in both Soccer and with major fund raisers in the Athletic Department, in consultation with the Office of Institutional Advancement and the Athletic Director.
Implements effective strategies to retain students athletically and academically. Monitors and supports the academic success of the student-athlete.
Acts as a liaison to help coordinate community service involvement.
Selects and retains qualified subordinate personnel to ensure the provision of a quality-efficient Soccer Program through ongoing support, training, supervision, coaching, counseling, and performance review.
Effectively prepares, and manages the teams’ budgets and follows the policies set forth by the office of Finance and Administration.

Minimum Job Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning or a related discipline required; Master’s Degree preferred and/or equivalent combination of training and experience
Seven or more years’ experience coaching Soccer, with demonstrated success as a Division II/III or higher collegiate Soccer coach.
Three years of supervisory/management experience, preferably in higher education.
Advanced knowledge of Soccer coaching strategy.
Demonstrated knowledge in teaching Soccer skills and techniques.
Demonstrated knowledge of Soccer Rules & Regulations
Computer skill proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel software

Physical Demands
The work environment is an athletic and office setting which requires the ability to travel much of the time (including international travel), work long hours including evenings and weekends, be physically active, able to lift up to 50 pounds, and have the ability to demonstrate specific skills.
