Summer Intern
Administration Department

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Human Resources Manager
Schedule: 20-30/week between the hours of 8 am-4 pm. Work schedule may vary depending departmental needs.
Rate of Pay: $15.00/hr.

Position Summary

South Bend International Airport (SBN) provides nonstop service to fourteen cities – Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Detroit, Fort Myers/Punta Gorda, Knoxville, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, New York City/ Newark, Orlando/Sanford, Phoenix/Mesa, Sarasota/Bradenton, and Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg – with connections world-wide. Our multi-modal terminal serves over one million air, rail and bus passengers each year.

The Administrative Intern will work closely with the accounting, finance, human resources, IT, and property management teams, coordinated through the Human Resources Manager. The internship will begin and end at agreed upon times between the selected individual and the Airport Authority.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

✈ The Intern will have the opportunity to learn different aspects of the department’s functions by assisting with special projects and attending department and airport meetings and events.

✈ Special projects may include document scanning and filing; conducting audits and research; updating documents; gathering information for inventory; and escorting vendors/visitors throughout the airport.

Minimum Qualifications / Functional Requirements

✈ Qualified candidates must be pursuing a degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, IT, or equivalent program.

✈ The candidate will be required to work at least 20 hours a week or more, dependent upon discussion with management about schedule.

✈ The candidate must have a valid and active driver’s license and be able to operate a vehicle.

✈ Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check, security screening, drug screening, and physical.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

✈ Must have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

✈ Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; to solve problems in creative ways while utilizing sound judgment; and, to maintain accurate and complete records.

✈ Must be able to work independently as well as with others and maintain confidentiality.

✈ Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including spreadsheet and database programs.

Work Environment

Work is frequently performed in an office setting, with moderate inside temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Entire office is smoke free. Occasional outside work may also be required, which may include exposure to extreme weather conditions and moderate to loud noise levels.

Physical Requirements

✈ Work is frequently performed in a standard office environment as well as extensive periods of time outdoors.

✈ Exposure to dust, grease, excessive noise or vibration, noxious gas or fumes and/or extreme outdoor weather conditions may be occasionally expected.

✈ Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 15 pounds.

✈ Position requires frequent reaching with hands and arms, standing, and walking.

✈ Ability to occasionally climb, kneel, crouch, bend, and crawl are required.

✈ Ability to sit for constant periods of time.

✈ Vision abilities required include close, distant, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Vision acuity of 20/40 corrected or better.

✈ Work performed requires the ability to speak and hear.

✈ Position may be required to occasionally drive Authority vehicles on Airport grounds and public highways.
