POSITION TITLE: ASSISTANT WATER SUPERINTENDENT
DPW – WATER DIVISION
AFSCME LOCAL 1700 – GRADE 12
FULL-TIME (40 HOURS PER WEEK)
PAY RANGE: $81,732.04 TO $109,858.32 PER YEAR
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists in planning and organizing the daily operations and maintenance of the Town’s water system.
Periodically inspects water storage facilities and pumping stations to see that all the equipment is operating satisfactorily and inspects for any malfunctions where deficiencies are noted and takes the necessary steps to correct them.
Oversee that coordination is effective between field, plant administration services, reviewing all work projects with staff; develops and implements new water programs, such as leak detection, meter replacement, and backflow control program, etc.
Supervises the workforce; interviews prospective employees; assists in the selection and makes recommendations for the appointment of new employees; assists in the evaluation of the water department staff.
Proposes policy changes and discusses the same with the Superintendent and carries out all approved policies.
Confers with developers and contractors ironing out all problems and issues as they arise. Keeps abreast of developments in the field of water resources, changes in laws and water distribution techniques and practices.
The Assistant Water Superintendent will be more involved with administration, and their duties will include filling in for the Superintendent during their absence.
The Assistant Water Superintendent will assist the Water Superintendent in all other areas that arise in the Water Department Division.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the distribution system and the pumping stations.
Knowledge of the operation of the department, from the office work involved to the fieldwork.
Have a basic understanding of the PH corrosion control system and the backflow program.
Education and Experience:
Formal high school education plus at least 4 years’ experience in the field.
