International Trade Compliance Associate

Our client, a prestigious national law firm, is seeking a mid-level associate to join its International Trade Compliance (ITC) practice. This opportunity is based in either Washington, DC or New Haven, CT, with a hybrid schedule (3 days onsite per week).

The ideal candidate will have 2 to 6 years of legal experience specifically in trade compliance, with demonstrated knowledge of ITAR, EAR, OFAC sanctions regulations, and CFIUS matters. Prior experience drafting voluntary disclosures and compliance policies is strongly preferred. In-house or government experience is a plus.
Key Responsibilities

• Advise clients on compliance with international trade laws and regulations, including ITAR, EAR, OFAC, and CFIUS.
• Draft and revise voluntary disclosures and internal compliance policies.
• Work closely with partners and clients on regulatory matters.
• Contribute to firm publications and thought leadership in the trade compliance space.
• Collaborate with internal teams to meet billable targets and client expectations.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school
• 2 to 6 years of international trade compliance experience (Class of 2019 to 2023)
• Strong knowledge of ITAR, EAR, OFAC, and CFIUS
• Admitted to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
• Excellent writing and communication skills
• Stable work history and strong academic credentials required
• Experience in drafting voluntary disclosures and compliance documents (strongly preferred)
• Prior in-house or government experience (preferred)

Salary & Benefits

• Base Salary: $177,000 – $212,000 (commensurate with experience)
• Bonus Eligible: Yes (upon achieving 1800 billable hours, 150 of which may be DEI/pro bono)
• Hybrid Schedule: 3 days onsite per week
