ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities:
Facilitates effective communication between BCPS staff, students, parents, and the public by providing high-quality spoken language interpreting services. Supports multilingual families by ensuring accurate and culturally sensitive interpretation in various educational settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken communication between parents, students, and school personnel from the target language into English and vice versa.
- Provide interpretation services for:
- Infants and Toddlers Program
- Child Find Program
- Special education meetings and assessments
- Parent-teacher conferences
- School events and assemblies
- Attendance and suspension hearings
- Perform sight translations of short written texts as needed.
- Act as a cultural broker, offering context and clarification to bridge cultural gaps between schools and multilingual families.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience:
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of a foreign language. Knowledge of the educational process and system.
Skill in fluently speaking, reading, and writing a foreign language. Skill in translating written documents from a foreign language into English and from English to a foreign language.
Ability to work effectively with BCPS families, students, teachers and program staff. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships the families of students, school staff, the public, and others.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
The work of this class will include travel to schools throughout the system.
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Salary: $ 37.42 per hour (contractual)

Pre-Employment Requirements:
- All people employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (per COMAR) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $109.
- Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
- If you have military experience, you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
- Official transcripts will be required upon hire and must be sent via eScript/Clearinghouse from your university.
- Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
