Description

PURPOSE STATEMENT

A staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional RN who directs and/or performs nursing care to patients assigned to his/her within the scope of his/her license. This RN must effectively prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care; be self-directed and adaptable and can assist in diagnostic and minimally invasive procedures, provide patient care before, during, and after procedures, and collaborate closely with radiologists, technologists, and other staff. The RN is responsible to the Nursing Director on the unit to which he/she is assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Prepare patients for interventional radiology procedures, including obtaining medical histories, performing assessments, starting IVs, and administering pre-procedure medications. 
  • Monitor patients during procedures using moderate sedation or anesthesia support, ensuring vital signs are stable and comfort is maintained. 
  • Assist interventional radiologists during procedures.  
  • Provide post-procedure care, including recovery monitoring and discharge instructions. 
  • Maintain sterile technique and support infection control protocols as indicated. 
  • Document all aspects of patient care in the EMR system accurately and promptly. 
  • Collaborate with small teams and may cross-train to support other departments as needed.
  • Integrates patient and family teaching in daily routine in identification of expected outcomes and goals. 
  • Implements patient care according to planned interventions to attain the patient’s optimal level of function and documents according to policy.
  • Demonstrates positive customer service relations.
  • Routinely participates in QI projects and encourages the department to continuously improve.
  • Supports the Medical Center’s Mission/Vision/Philosophy positively.
  • May participate in rotating on-call schedule for urgent/emergent IR procedures.
  • Float as needed to other procedural areas such as pain clinic and/or endoscopy.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other essential duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Currently licensed to practice as a professional registered nurse in the state of Missouri.
  • Current BLS.
  • Current ACLS.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of interventional radiology, critical care, emergency, or perioperative nursing experience.
  • Experience with moderate sedation preferred.
  • Knowledgeable regarding the growth and development and assessing the physical and psychological needs of patients in the following stages of life: early adulthood, middle age, and geriatric.
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic.
  • Demonstrate excellent critical thinking and assessment skills.
  • Be able to work independently and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be knowledgeable with EMR systems and radiology workflows.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day.
  • Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
  • Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
  • Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
  • Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
  • Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to life and/or carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
