Description

Job Summary/Purpose

The Inventory Auditor is responsible for promoting and maintaining inventory accuracy across retail store locations. This position supports store teams by conducting on-site inventory audits, reviewing inventory reports, and identifying discrepancies or patterns that may indicate loss, operational issues, or training needs. The role plays a key part in supporting accurate replenishment, minimizing shrink, and protecting company assets.

This position also ensures compliance with internal control procedures by reviewing documentation, operating practices, and store-level processes. The Inventory Auditor provides actionable findings to store leadership and the audit department and works collaboratively to address root causes. This role contributes to data-informed decision-making and helps create a culture of accountability, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct inventory audits at retail locations, promoting consistency and accuracy across store operations.
  • Collaborate with store teams to investigate discrepancies, coach best practices, and continuously strengthen inventory processes.
  • Analyze audit findings and share clear, actionable recommendations to improve inventory controls and prevent loss.
  • Verify asset records and documentation to ensure compliance with internal controls and operational standards.
  • Lead root-cause analysis of inventory issues (e.g., receiving errors) and support corrective action.
  • Provide data and reports to the Retail Accounting Administrator, Retail Auditors, Category Managers, District Managers, and General Manager accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Uphold safety and confidentiality standards in all audit practices.
  • Contribute to a culture of accountability, partnership, and continuous improvement.
  • Take on additional projects or responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

Skills & Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license and motor vehicle record compliant with Beck Supplier’s insurance requirements
  • Background in retail operations, including customer service and inventory handling
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Excel and inventory systems
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Preferred:

  • Experience performing inventory counts and applying basic inventory control procedures
  • Experience with PDI or similar retail back-office systems
  • Background in auditing or loss prevention

  • Consistent adherence to safety, security, and compliance practices
  • Proactively identifies risks and opportunities, resulting in measurable improvements in loss prevention and inventory optimization.

Physical Demands and Environmental Condition 

This position requires the ability to perform a range of physical tasks in varied environments. 

Physical demands include:

Occasional:

  • Walking, driving between locations
  • Lifting and carrying items up to 50 lbs.
  • Use of ladders and step stools
  • Repetitive motion of hands and fingers (e.g., keyboard use)
  • Pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, forward bending, squatting, reaching
  • Use of hand and foot controls
  • Exposure to hot and cold temperatures and other atmospheric conditions

Frequent:

  • Standing and sitting for extended periods
  • Use of hands for data entry and documentation
  • Clear communication (talking and hearing)
  • Visual focus (reading screens, documents, and physical inventory)

Work Schedule and Travel Requirements

  • Must be available to work non-traditional hours as needed, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
  • Regular travel between store locations is required, with company car provided
