Job Description - Inventory Control Specialist

The Inventory Control & Procurement Specialist manages inventory accuracy, storeroom operations, receiving, and purchasing activities to support uninterrupted manufacturing operations. This role ensures timely availability of raw materials, components, tooling, and MRO supplies while maintaining accurate records in the ERP system (Business Central 365). The position plays a critical role in inventory integrity, reconciliation, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and company standards.

Key Responsibilities
Inventory Control & Storeroom Operations

Receive, inspect, and record materials and supplies against purchase orders, packing slips, and quality standards
Maintain accurate inventory and purchasing transactions in BC365, ensuring real-time visibility and traceability
Monitor inventory levels, usage trends, and reorder points to prevent shortages, excess inventory, and production disruptions
Perform cycle counts, spot counts, end-of-month counts, and annual physical inventories; investigate and resolve discrepancies
Reconcile inventory discrepancies, identify root causes, and develop corrective action plans (CAPs)
Issue materials to Production, Maintenance, and Engineering per work orders and BOMs
Maintain lot control, serial numbers, certifications, and expiration dates
Manage non-conforming, scrap, obsolete, and returned materials, including reclassification and system adjustments

Receiving & Inspection

Inspect incoming shipments for accuracy, damage, and quantity; resolve discrepancies as needed
Label and properly store received materials in accordance with FIFO and material-handling requirements
Maintain accurate receiving documentation and system transactions, including international shipment consolidation

Purchasing & Materials Management

Create purchase requisitions and purchase orders for raw materials, components, tooling, and MRO supplies
Communicate with suppliers on pricing, lead times, delivery schedules, order confirmations, and discrepancies
Track open purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery and resolve late or incomplete shipments
Coordinate with Production, Planning, and Procurement to align purchasing with production schedules
Maintain accurate purchasing records and support supplier performance, cost control, and sourcing initiatives

Warehouse Operations & Safety

Safely transport materials using forklifts, pallet jacks, and approved equipment
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe storeroom environment compliant with OSHA, 5S, and company safety standards

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

Partner with Production, Planning, Quality, Engineering, Finance, Maintenance, and Purchasing teams
Support audits, inspections, and compliance requirements (including FSC)
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to inventory accuracy, material flow, supplier performance, and cost reduction

Qualifications
High school diploma
3+ years of experience in inventory control, receiving, storeroom operations, or purchasing in a manufacturing environment
ERP/MRP experience (Business Central 365 preferred)
Knowledge of manufacturing materials, BOMs, and production workflows
Forklift certification or ability to obtain

Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management
Ability to analyze data, identify root causes, and resolve discrepancies
Effective communication and vendor coordination skills
Understanding of FIFO, lean manufacturing, and inventory best practices
Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Physical & Work Environment
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand, walk, bend, or reach for extended periods
Work performed in a manufacturing and warehouse environment with exposure to noise, dust, and moving equipment
