Job Description - Inventory Specialist

Job Description:

Position Summary

The Inventory Specialist is a member of the Revenue Management Team and supports the team’s work to maximize A&K’s revenue and profit potential. This position tracks utilization of inventory on escorted group tours and works with sales, product development, and other members of the revenue management team to support the overall sales process. The Inventory Specialist assures that complete and accurate booking information is provided to suppliers and internal departments. Throughout the product life cycle, this position compiles and manages data for internal use and analysis.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Load product inventory into the reservation system as directed by the Inventory Manager

  • Coordinate with the Data Build team to assure product inventory is built correctly in the reservation system and available for sale

  • Troubleshoot inconsistencies in the reservation system and work with IT to correct them

  • Monitor sales and manage product inventory levels as directed by the Inventory Manager, including clearing waitlists, managing triple occupancy requests, last-minute bookings, etc.

  • Provide status updates to other internal departments and DMCs/Vendors.

  • Participate in inter-department meetings and carry out agreed-upon actions in a timely manner

  • Recommend securing additional departures when demand warrants.

  • Monitor cancellation penalties for all vendors

  • Manage required deposits and payments for air space and other special deposits, communicating with the sales staff, DMCs/Vendors, and Product Managers

  • Release unused inventory to vendors in accordance with vendor terms & conditions

  • Issue preliminary and final rooming lists

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and deliver on expectations

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Knowledgeable of world geography

  • Skilled and proficient knowledge and use of Microsoft Office applications

  • Must be able to read/write/speak in English

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

  • Minimum of two years of industry experience

  • Travel, touring, or hospitality industry preferred

Special requirements

  • Evening, weekend, and approved overtime may be required

 

Salary

  • 53-58k; position is bonus eligible
