Overview of the Role

The IRA Operations Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of duties to support the IRA and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) administration functions and deposit operations function.  

Requirements

IRA Specialist Responsibilities

• Reviews all new IRA or HSA accounts for accurate setup and proper documentation, both on core system and through 3rd party vendor site (Ascensus).
• Reviews and processes transfers, distributions, rollovers, conversions, death claims and closures in accordance with government regulations and credit union policies.
• Prepares new and maintains existing IRA customer files for all correspondence and documentation including back-up withholding, distributions, and beneficiary forms.
• Develop and maintain IRA and HSA internal policies and procedures.
• Provide Compliance Department with any changes in law that impact member IRA/HSA Accounts.
• Prepares files for all IRA and HSA statements and required tax forms, i.e. 1099, 5498, 5498E, and 5498S.
• Monitors 3rd party correspondence to ensure credit union policies are updated as needed.
• Trains and communicates new and revised IRA or HSA requirements to other appropriate personnel.
• Reconciles, posts, and reports IRA withholding and back-up withholding.
• Assist front line staff and members via phone as needed.
• To process subpoenas, restraints and levies.
• To process and maintain deceased accounts.
• Performs other duties as assigned

IRA Specialist Qualifications

• Determined and motivated individual with a positive attitude.
• High School Diploma or equivalent. Associate Degree preferred.
• 6 months or more related experience preferred.  
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Independent but also be able to thrive in a team environment.

IRA Specialist Physical Demands

• Sitting for prolonged periods of time
• Frequent computer usage and screen time
• Frequent typing and usage of fine motor skills

Actual compensation rate will be determined based on relevant experience.
