Job Summary:

The grounds worker performs landscaping tasks using power equipment and hand tools to maintain the facility’s grounds with the guidance of a supervisor and the grounds team.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain irrigation systems to ensure proper operation and coverage.
• Repair and replace sprinkler heads, nozzles, valves, fittings, pipe, and other irrigation components.
• Program and adjust irrigation controllers and watering schedules.
• Identify and repair leaks, broken lines, and malfunctioning equipment.
• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on irrigation systems and related equipment.
• Mow lawns, edge sidewalks, trim weeds, and maintain campus grounds as assigned.
• Trim bushes, shrubs, and hedges and assist with planting and landscape improvements.
• Pick up and remove trash and debris before mowing designated areas.
• Apply fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides as directed by the supervisor.
• Operate and perform routine maintenance on mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and other grounds equipment.
• Assist with athletic field maintenance and campus beautification projects.
• Support campus events through furniture moves and table and chair setups.
• Assist other Operations Department teams and participate in large campus projects when needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to operate various types of power equipment, including lawnmowers, trimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and other landscaping equipment
• Ability to use hand tools required for landscaping
• Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments on time
• Ability to work independently at times
• Must have excellent time management and interpersonal skills
• Must have excellent communication skills

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Previous experience preferred
• On-the-job training offered

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, or kneeling.
• Must be physically able to operate power equipment.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
• Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions.
• Must have reliable transportation and be at work at assigned times daily

This is a 12-month, full-time position. Hours are 7:00-3:30, Monday - Friday.

Preference will be given to applicants who are members of a congregation of the churches of Christ. All applicants must be members of a local church and able to sign and abide by the MDCA Statement of Faith to be considered.
