IT Field Technician

Summary/Objective

Harper General Contractors is a commercial construction company serving the southeast with offices across North and South Carolina. The IT Field Technician will install, troubleshoot, test and repair jobsite technology including networking equipment, televisions, computer workstations, and printers. Duties will be performed in a mixture of office environments and construction jobsites, some of which will require overnight travel.

Essential Functions:

• Setup and teardown of networking, computing, and AV equipment at remote jobsites.


• Install, troubleshoot, test and repair jobsite technology including networking equipment, televisions, computer workstations and printers.


• Travel to and from remote construction jobsites; 25% of travel will require overnight or multi-day accommodations.


• Assists field users with software and hardware problem resolution.


• Document time spent and resolution details in ticketing system.


• Inventory tracking utilizing asset management system.


• Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high customer service standards.

Competencies:

• Ability to perform skilled installation and repair of wall-mounted TVs, rack-mounted networking equipment, and workstation cabling.


• Working knowledge of computer networks (LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi).


• A strong working knowledge of computer systems, hardware, and software.


• Good problem-solving, analytical, and team-working skills.


• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


• Cradlepoint experience a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job on a commercial jobsite, the employee may be exposed to loud noises; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions. Commercial construction sites can be hazardous. Required safety gear and rule adherence mandatory.

Physical Demands: Employee must be able to regularly lift and/or carry necessary IT equipment up to 50 pounds. Employee must be able to safely climb ladders and work from heights.

Travel Required: Frequent travel to/from multiple jobsites across SC and NC. Occasional overnight trip required. Valid US driver's license required.

Education and Experience:

• Associate degree or equivalent experience.


• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record mandatory.


• One to two years’ experience in a technology, A/V, or low-voltage installation role.
