Job Description - IT Help Desk Technician



Berkshire Hathaway Automotive is seeking an IT Help Desk Technician to join the team. The IT Help Desk Technician is responsible for providing quality technical support and customer service to all customers of the Berkshire Hathaway Automotive organization. 


This is a full time, in-office position at our Headquarters in Irving, Texas.


Salary range is dependent on experience.


Working hours: Our help desk is open from 7:30 am to 7:00 PM CST Monday to Friday and from 08:30 am to 5:00 PM CST on Saturday with a rotating on-call schedule for very minor after-hours support. We have 4 shifts available and will work to accommodate your schedule.

Responsibilities:



  • Provides technical support for the determination, resolution, or escalation of technical problems related to Windows environments and applications, electronic mail, security issues, desktop hardware/software, server hardware/software, and production equipment related issues.

  • Provides Application How To Support for popular PC applications (examples: Microsoft Office, Microsoft OS, Adobe Acrobat, Outlook, Internet Browsers.)

  • Create/remove logon credentials from various in-house systems including but not limited to Microsoft Active Directory, Cisco Call Manager, Cisco Unity Voicemail, Third Party Systems and databases.

  • Work from a ticket queue to complete work orders in a timely manner to meet department and customer service objectives.

  • Answer incoming customer calls and provide assistance by phone in a friendly and professional manner.

  • Set up and install peripherals including but not limited to phones (Cisco IPT), PC’s, printers, laptops, monitors/projector units in person or by phone.

  • Assist with physical PC workstation moves (PC’s, monitors, phones, etc).

  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.


Required Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or GED

  • Possess a valid driver’s license in state of residence and must pass Motor Vehicle Records check

  • A passion for helping non-technical end-users.

  • A strong willingness to learn, improve and take feedback from the team.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Keeps end users, associates and management updated all the time.

  • Excellent time management, and multitasking skills.

  • Attention to detail and quality of work.

  • Adeptness at utilizing resources and finding solutions.


  • Self-motivated/self-starter with the ability to work well with others and/or alone.

    *All potential employees must pass pre-employment testing including a background check and drug screen.




Desired skills:



  • Troubleshooting knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10 and 11

  • Knowledge of basic hardware such as laptops, desktop computers, printers, etc.

  • Knowledge of Active Directory (users, groups, password resets and computer objects)

  • Basic understanding of Anti-Virus, Anti-Spam, and Anti-Malware/spyware solutions

  • Ability to configure network printers

  • Email Administration (MS Outlook)

  • Very basic understanding of routers / switches and wireless access points.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • 1+ years knowledge or work experience in an IT or computer-related environment.

  • 1+ years of hands-on experience as a Help Desk/Call Center Technician.

  • 1+ years of experience providing Customer Service and support via phone or in person.

  • CompTIA A+ or Network+, desired.

  • Prior MSP experience is a plus
