SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the direction of the Director, this position is responsible for ensuring clean, safe and functional facilities by performing daily cleaning and on-going maintenance activities for Head Start offices, classrooms, outdoor areas and other spaces used by the Head Start program. Duties may include setting up spaces for meetings, Family Nights, socializations, etc. This position also works as part of a team to assist in activities in the areas of the classroom, kitchen and bust and/or to serve as a disabilities aide as needed. The position contains elements of job descriptions of positions with titles similar classroom aide, bus monitor, and kitchen aide and as a disabilities aide providing support for children with monitor, and kitchen aide and as a disabilities aide providing support for children with disabilities. Works with typically developing children and/or children with special needs/disabilities. The position may be reassigned to various classrooms/center/bus routes as deemed necessary for program operations. This position may receive content area technical support and training from the staff person responsible for center supervision, teacher, bus driver, staff person responsible for transportation, kitchen staff and/or program managers/specialist/coordinators.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Cleans facilities on a daily basis and ensures that assigned facilities are clean and free of hazards.


• Provides routine maintenance such as replacing light bulbs and maintaining equipment used in the course of work.


• Reports safety, sanitation, and faire hazards to staff person in charge of the center.


• Performs routine maintenance and heavy cleaning of buildings and grounds during program breaks and more often as requested.


• Performs grounds keeping tasks such as snow removal, sweeping steps, porches and drives, maintain parking lot, mowing lawns, trimming shrubs/trees, etc.


• Maintains cooperative relationships with fellow employees, building staff, landlords, supervisor, administrators, students, and the general public.


• Takes precautions to protect own health and safety as well as the health and safety of clients and staff and to protect equipment and facilities.


• Participates in “Right to Know” training and informs supervisor if SDS sheets need to be replaced or added.


• Assists classroom staff in all classroom activities, field trips and outdoor activities included in lesson plans.


• Completes routine kitchen/dining room/food chores as assigned

• Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and other Head Start requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

• Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Ability to communicate both written and orally.


• Ability to follow directions from both written and oral instructions


• Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.


• Ability to communicate with families and children in a positive and helpful manner.


• Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from community.

Other:

• Ability to exhibit patience and tact when communicating with children, families, staff, management, referral sources and the public.


• Ability to project professionalism in conducting daily activities.


• Must be able to work varied hours and days, including evenings and weekends


• Use of common maintenance tools and equipment


• May be required to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and perform heavy physical labor


• Must have a current IVP card


• Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.


• Must be able to pass or meet tribal insurance policy and procedures.


• Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

• Maintain or obtain a current First Aid and CPR certification within 2 months of the hire date.


• Maintain or obtain a current Food Handlers certification within 2 months of the hire date.
