In one sentence

The Java Architect works on problems of diverse scope. Strong knowledge in Java technologies and debugging code is required. Candidates should be excited about solving problems with other people’s code and determining solutions that can address multiple problems simultaneously.  Candidates should be able to recognize patterns in defects across multiple code samples, in order to identify root causes of those defects. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise. The architect works on the migration efforts of critical, industry-class, in-house, or commercial products as well as tooling for use in project work.

What will your job look like?

You will:
• Learn the Astadia Factory tools to perform mainframe transformations.
• Provide expert level Java knowledge and debugging.
• Provide expert level Java and BASH or Python script coding.
• Document requirements, use cases, system design and code.
• Participate in multiple concurrent projects to completion on-time and on-budget.
• Deliver within the scope of a Factory project while not compromising on quality.
• Work closely with team members and clients to achieve desired results.
• Develops and works with the client’s mainframe specialists.
• Debug independently.
• Follow logic paths through code.
• Understand diagnostic. 
• Be challenged by defects and roadblocks, looking for their own solutions.
• Be willing to escalate and ask questions.
• Work without a prescribed roadmap – be an independent thinker.
• Have a “Magic Consulting Aura” - customer focused, independently driven, curious, work with a team – but not be dependent upon a team – for creating solutions.
• Work with small teams carrying multiple responsibilities including development, debugging, data, environment, testing, etc.

All you need is...

• Expert level in Java application technologies (Java, JDBC, REST, ANT, GIT etc....).
• Expert level experience coding in Java
• Expert level code debugging, performing builds, and rollouts.
• Exposure to or experience with third party development frameworks desired.
• The ability to learn new frameworks in a short period.
• Strong object-oriented programming debugging skills.
• Knowledge of,  and experience with, Cobol, is great to have.
• SQL development.
• In-depth understanding of Java OO concepts
• Experienced in unit testing, test-driven development, integration testing, and deployment using cloud technologies.
• Willing to learn Mainframe Technologies (COBOL, CICS, JCL, DB2 etc)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with Waterfall and Agile development methodologies.
• 10+ years of experience with Java application and relational database technologies.
• 2+ years BASH scripts/Python development experience
• Experience with Linux (required) and Windows development environments.
• BE in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
