What You'll Do as a Journeyman Manual Machinist
- Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining steps.
- Set up and operate manual lathes, mills, and other machine tools to produce and repair precision parts.
- Create sketches and modify part dimensions to match repaired or mating components.
- Select and set up the right tooling, fixtures, and materials for each unique job.
- Measure and inspect your work using precision tools, including calipers, OD and ID micrometers, and dial indicators.
- Adjust CNC lathes and mills as needed to improve machining accuracy and efficiency.
- Troubleshoot issues with parts or machining processes and communicate solutions with the team.
- Maintain your machines and work area to keep the shop clean, organized, and safe.
Our Ideal Journeyman Manual Machinist
- Experienced: Bring 5+ years of hands-on experience with manual machining, along with familiarity operating CNC lathes and mills.
- Precise: Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings, work confidently with machining calculations, and use precision measuring tools accurately.
- Versatile: Comfortable machining large parts and working through a variety of unique projects rather than repetitive production work.
- Confident Problem-Solver: Trust your machining knowledge and mechanical aptitude to make sound decisions, confidently stand behind your work, and solve challenges as they arise.
- Trade-Trained: A high school diploma, technical or vocational degree, machining certification, trade school certification, or equivalent training is preferred.
- Team-Minded: Approachable, communicate clearly and effectively, work hard, and enjoy being part of a skilled team that takes pride in quality work while still knowing how to have fun.
