Job Description - Jr Commercial Lender

Description

SUMMARY

The position of Jr. Commercial Lender is responsible for soliciting, negotiating, and coordinating the closing of smaller (initially less than $250K) Commercial loans in compliance with the bank’s lending policies and procedures. You will develop small business relationships with commercial customers and promote business for the bank by maintaining good relations with customers, participating in sales promotions, and representing the bank in outside functions. In addition, the Jr. Commercial Lender assures compliance with all SVB policies and procedures, as well as all applicable state and federal banking regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Engages in business development activities and solicitation of new business. Cross sells other bank products and services.
  2. Gathers and analyzes all information necessary to process a financing request. Meets with customers, visit places of business, negotiate terms and conditions, and approve loans within established lending limits.
  3. Coordinates processing of approved loans. Responsible that loan documents are correct, and that they are processed according to loan policy.
  4. Handles all post-closing functions, including resolution of open exceptions, ensuring customer conforms to all conditions under the loan policy, handling problems during loan duration, etc.

The position of Jr. Commercial Lender performs duties specific to the position and other functions as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

The position of Jr. Commercial Lender is not responsible for the supervision of any employee(s).

 

ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

The environment for this position is an open office that is mostly clean and comfortable. It may include some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc. The incumbent is in a non-confined office-type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will. 

The incumbent in the course of performing this position spends time writing, typing, speaking, listening, lifting (up to 30 pounds), carrying, seeing (such as close, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and adjusted focus), sitting, pulling, walking, standing, squatting, kneeling and reaching.

MENTAL DEMANDS

The incumbent in this position must be able to accommodate reading documents or instruments, detailed work, problem solving, customer contact, reasoning, math, language, presentations, verbal and written communication, analytical reasoning, stress, multiple concurrent tasks, and constant interruptions.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

These specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this position. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform the position in a satisfactory manner. Individual abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); two years of related experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Work related experience should consist of a financial institution operations, sales or customer service background. Educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school, or financial industry related curriculum, should be business or financial industry related.
  • Utilize MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with a high degree of proficiency. 
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Strong knowledge of general office practices.
  • Advanced math skills
  • Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence, and speak clearly to customers and employees.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work with general supervision while performing duties.
  • Current driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage if required to drive in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities.

The incumbent must be able to perform this position safely, without endangering health or safety to him/herself or others.

Salary Range $60,000.00 - $70,000.00
