This is a temporary position (1 year fixed term contract,  with possibility for extension).

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and curious Junior Python Engineer to join the Competitive Intelligence & AI team at Swiss Marketplace Group (SMG). You will focus on building and maintaining scalable data collection pipelines, with an emphasis on Web crawling and data ingestion. This role offers an excellent opportunity to learn modern software development practices and contribute to critical data intelligence pipelines.

Our team is small, highly collaborative, and values initiative and experimentation.

We are looking for someone eager to learn and contribute to bringing ideas from concept to production in an agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of scalable, reliable data pipelines and microservices using Python, specifically for Web crawling.

• Contribute to the evolution of our ingestion infrastructure, enabling large-scale data collection.

• Work with cloud environments (AWS and GCP), focusing on data collection and storage.

• Support data quality, freshness, and coverage by monitoring crawling processes.

• Collaborate with other engineers to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to data collection.

Key Technologies: Python, Postgres, AWS, GCP (BigQuery), Dagster, Grafana, Docker

• Basic proficiency in Python and an interest in data collection/ingestion techniques.

• Eagerness to learn about Web scraping techniques, anti-bot measures, and modern web applications. Former knowledge of and/or projects with microservices, APIs, Playwright, Selenium, Scrapy, or other Python-based Web scraping frameworks is a major plus. 

• Familiarity with the basics of cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS).

• Knowledge of modern web technologies, REST APIs, and how to gather data at scale.

• A solid understanding of basic SQL concepts, prior experience with PSQL and/or BigQuery is a plus.

• Fluency in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively within the team.

• Completed at least undergraduate studies in a relevant field.
