Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and skilled Juvenile Justice Counselor to join our team. The Counselor will work directly with justice-involved youth, providing counseling, assessments, case management, and support services. The ideal candidate is passionate about empowering young people and committed to promoting rehabilitation, accountability, and community reintegration.

Program Info

Superior Court of New Jersey via Family Court. The purpose of the program is to offer a detention alternative to the judge which would allow the justice-involved youth to remain in the community thus limiting any disruption in the youth’s daily life. The program offers youth an opportunity to remain in the community and continue to attend school and remain employed; the youth is monitored telephonically throughout the course of the day and ensures likelihood of the youth returning to court at the next mandated time. The program utilizes

Electronic Monitoring and home detention in order to prevent the youth from entering the detention center.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Evaluating the needs and risks of young offenders through the intake process and assessments
  • Developing individualize service plans and setting goals for each juvenile
  • Implementing behavioral management strategies through visits and daily interactions
  • Coordinating with other professionals, such as social workers, probation officers, and Educators
  • Monitoring and documenting juveniles’ progress towards their service plans
  • Providing de-escalation and behavior modification conversation ng immediate needs as they arise
  • Preparing court reports and accurately reporting on juvenile’s level of program compliance during court proceedings
  • Educating juveniles and their families about legal processes and community resources
  • Conducting follow-up services and reintegration support for juveniles transitioning back into the community
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's level practitioner or high school graduate with 3 or more years of experience providing direct care to youth in a behavioral health agency or institutional setting.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Must be able to exercise independent thinking and good judgment under all
  • circumstances.
  • Must be able to analyze work, set goals, develop plans and utilize time effectively and efficiently.
  • Position involves evening/weekend hours based on program needs.
  • Includes moderate travel to facilities, courts, schools, and community partners.

Additional Information:

  • Base Pay: $20.20/hourly
  • Schedule: morning, afternoon, and some evenings
  • Bilingual Rate: An additional $1.50/hourly rate added to the base pay if Spanish proficient.
