Position Overview: Physical Education Teacher & Head Track & Field Coach

Mystic Valley is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Physical Education Teacher to join our faculty, with additional responsibilities as the Head Coach of the Track & Field program. The ideal candidate is a passionate educator and coach who is committed to student development, both inside the classroom and on the field. This dual role offers the opportunity to promote lifelong health and fitness while guiding student-athletes toward excellence in track and field.

Key Responsibilities

As Physical Education Teacher:

• Develop and maintain a structured, engaging classroom environment aligned with school expectations

• Implement the school’s approved physical education curriculum (including Direct Instruction and Core Knowledge programs) with fidelity

• Monitor, document, and report student progress regularly

• Participate in all required professional development and training sessions

• Collaborate in grade-level team and staff meetings; contribute to curriculum development and instructional planning

• Engage in weekly peer practice sessions (if applicable)

• Prepare and distribute four progress reports and four report cards each academic year

• Maintain open communication with parents and report any academic or behavioral concerns to the appropriate staff

• Support the school community by assisting with designated duties such as arrival, lunch/recess, and dismissal

As Head Track & Field Coach:

• Lead and manage the middle and/or upper school Track & Field program

• Design and implement effective training plans to support athletic development

• Provide mentorship, motivation, and guidance to student-athletes

• Ensure a safe and inclusive environment during practices and competitions

• Uphold the school's values of sportsmanship, discipline, and personal growth

Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience teaching physical education or leading youth-focused athletic programs

• Prior coaching experience in Track & Field at the middle or high school level strongly preferred

• Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills

• A passion for health, wellness, and athletic development

• Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, or a related field preferred

• Must successfully complete the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) within one year of hire
