Position Overview:
Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking a dedicated and experienced Reading Specialist to lead its Reading Intervention program under the direct supervision of the K–8 Assistant Directors and in alignment with the policies set forth by the Board of Trustees. This is an eleven-month position focused on supporting students—primarily in Grades K–6, and potentially through Grade 8—who demonstrate reading and language deficiencies or are performing below grade level.

The Reading Specialist plays a critical role in identifying at-risk students through data analysis, delivering targeted interventions, and helping students achieve reading proficiency through structured, evidence-based instruction.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary point of contact for parents of students identified as at risk in reading and/or language acquisition, and facilitate enrollment into the intervention program.

• Collaborate closely with classroom teachers and fellow Reading Specialists to ensure curriculum consistency and alignment.

• Utilize Direct Instruction (DI) programs for intervention whenever possible. For students at grade levels where DI is not applicable, maintain fidelity to school-approved programs that align with Direct Instruction and Core Knowledge. No new curriculum may be introduced without undergoing proper vetting procedures.

• Provide direct instruction to at-risk students as scheduled, beginning by August 15 each academic year.

• Continuously monitor and provide support to newly identified or newly enrolled students who qualify for reading intervention services.

• Prepare and distribute quarterly progress reports for all students receiving reading support, to be sent home with report cards.

• Participate in parent-teacher conferences to communicate student progress and collaborate with families.

• Carry out additional duties as assigned by the K–4 or 5–8 Assistant Directors to support overall school operations.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role preferred.

• Strong commitment to upholding and supporting school policies, procedures, and curriculum standards.

• Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.

• Effective problem-solving and data analysis capabilities.

• Keen attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.

• Adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic educational environment.

• Proven ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
