Job Description - Kennel Assistant, Veterinary Specialists of Alaska


Veterinary Medical Care is an essential business and Veterinary Specialists of Alaska is looking for Kennel Assistants to join our team who share our dedication to protecting our clients, staff, patients, and community.

We are looking for a Kennel Assistant to join our 3 doctor hospital. We have a strong Technician team and we are looking for a positive, energetic addition to the team.

JOB SUMMARY
The Kennel Assistant provides general support with veterinary husbandry, hospital cleaning and supply stocking, as well as light exercise and grooming for patients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Incumbent must have the skills, ability, and judgment to perform the following essential job duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Provide veterinary husbandry (e.g. bedding, cage turnover, food/water, litter, laundry, dishes)
  • Provide general exercise and care for hospitalized and visiting animals; including walking, bathing, and grooming
  • Assist with cleaning of hospital and grounds
  • Assist with replenishing supplies in all areas of hospital
  • Perform other duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
  • Calm, professional demeanor throughout the shift
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable time management and problem-solving skills; working efficiently and effectively throughout the hospital
  • Multi-task various duties and responsibilities in a timely and reliable manner, with appropriate follow-through and
  • accuracy
  • Understand and follow established hospital processes and procedures (i.e. SOPs)
  • Able to work well independently, as well as with a team
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The requirements listed below are representative of the physical ability required:
  • Properly lift and carry up to 30 pounds, 1 to 15 times per shift
  • Properly bend at the waist, up to 30 times per shift
Compensation:
  • $14-16 per hour
