Kitchen Activity Coordinator

Brain Injury Services (BIS) helps children and adults with a brain injury build the skills and confidence they need to lead a fulfilling and productive life.

Under the general supervision of the Senior Manager of Day Programs, the Kitchen Activity Coordinator (official title Unit Coordinator) is a full-time position responsible for the development and implementation of a day program for persons with brain injuries based on the Clubhouse model. The Unit Coordinator ensures that all unit activities align with participants' individual goals and the organizational mission. The ideal candidate should understand how groups work and grow, be able to bring people together to build a sense of community, support teamwork and learning among groups, and lead in a way that encourages participation and collaboration. 

In accordance with the purpose and mission of Brain Injury Services as well as the International Brain Injury Clubhouse Association standards, the Unit Coordinator shall:

• Be responsible for daily assigned unit operations and facilitation plan 
• Lead development of monthly assigned unit activity plans
• Perform light case management duties coordinating transportation and internal service coordination for member
• Ensure that all program units & activities are based on the needs of the participants and are designed to help them achieve their personal goals.
• Maintain relevant member documentation and support member Individual Service Plan (ISP) development per BIS policies
• Report & document operational & member incidents to the Senior Unit Coordinator
• Report unit coverage needs to the Senior Unit Coordinator to maintain group facilitation
• Review unit budget & purchase needs with the Senior Unit Coordinator
• Supervise and evaluate members’ progress and participation in the Clubhouse program and activities

Perform the following as assigned:

• Participate in intake and assessment activities per eligibility criteria
• Act as the main staff contact for clubhouse service coordination for up to 10 members
• Facilitate risk management strategies
• Assist in tracking general services, work unit measures, and attendance data
• Assist in member and stakeholder feedback data collection
• Participate in staff development activities, meetings, and conferences  
• Implement behavior interventions based on positive behavioral support
• Assist with regular program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives
• Assist in the implementation of Vocation Transition Program (VTP) and/or Employment Development Services (EDS) activities
• Assist in coordinating services with internal staff and outside agencies 
• Assist with fundraising activities
• Assist members in initiating and maintaining community partnerships

Requirements

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in special education, rehabilitation counseling, library science, social work or a closely related field is preferred. Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. A minimum of one year of experience providing community-based services to persons with disabilities, preferably those with brain injuries. We are looking for a candidate who is familiar with the Clubhouse model and its principles, including fostering a supportive community, promoting member participation, and encouraging meaningful engagement in daily activities, employment, and social opportunities. Preference will be given to those applicants with experience in a Clubhouse program and with knowledge of person-centered practices.

Familiarity with:

• Brain Injury (included Medical and psycho-social impacts) 
• ADA and other laws/regulations that promote and/or protect the rights of persons with disabilities
• Clubhouse model of helping individuals regain a sense of purpose and independence

Skills in:

• Effective verbal and written communication with clients and support personnel
• Current CPR and AED Certification, Brain Injury Fundamentals Training or CBIS Training, and ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification
• Identifying and developing interagency relationships
• Identifying the relevant documentation necessary to support a brain injury
• Operating Microsoft Office applications, such as Excel, PowerPoint & Word 
• Utilizing communication platforms, such as Microsoft Teams & Zoom

Ability to:

• Engage and manage several diverse activities in an average work week
• Communicate effectively with diverse groups or individuals
• Engage in moderate physical activity as needed

Note this position will focus on the kitchen unit. Culinary experience preferred. 

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm unless otherwise arranged by Clubhouse Manager. Majority of services are provided in-person and on-site presence is required. Some virtual programming may be specified by the Senior Manager of Day Programs, which may allow limited work-from-home opportunities. Additional evenings and weekend hours may be required.
