Job Description - Knockout Operator

Knockout Operator

Position Purpose:

Position is responsible for setting up and cleaning dies to reduce press downtime. 

Essential Functions:

· Set up and clean dies; 

· Follow daily knockout schedule; 

· Review forge schedule to ensure tooling is available to run forge schedule; 

· Schedule tooling on the die schedule list and notify appropriate individuals; 

· Receive work orders from Tool & Die; 

· Deliver dies to the Tool & Die area;

· Notify Tool & Die of die repair type to ensure tooling is appropriate; 

  • Complete appropriate paperwork such as job set up sheets; 
  • Identify issues with the equipment and notify supervisor and/or maintenance; 
  • Notify Quality of quality issues; 
  • Maintain daily timekeeping, daily inserts and die inventory in the Knockout computer system; 
  • Report unusual or unsafe conditions to supervisor; 

Actively participate in efforts to establish and promote a safe and healthy work environment. Follow policies, programs, and procedures for the reduction and elimination of work-related accidents and provide feedback to promote safer work behaviors and conditions

Education and Training:

  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • No experience necessary

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow instructions;
  • Ability to work under pressure and adhere to schedules;
  • Ability to read a tape measure; 
  • Ability to operate hand tools such as spray gun and forge tongs; 
  • Ability to work safely and keep area clean;
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with all levels of the organization; 
  • Good verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills;
  • Able to communicate clearly, concisely and achieve intended objectives;
  • Ability to work assigned shift and remain awake and alert during assigned shift is required;
  • Reporting to work for assigned shift, maintaining a physical presence and performing assigned work for the duration of assigned shift is required; 
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments which may include exposure to extreme heat, humidity, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, loud noise, and all weather conditions

· Physical Space: Workspaces can be confined or cluttered with machinery, molds, and materials, necessitating awareness of surroundings to prevent accidents.

· Vibration: Operating heavy machinery can lead to exposure to vibrations, which may affect comfort and health over time.

· Hazardous Materials: Depending on the processes involved, operators may work with chemicals or materials that require careful handling and awareness of safety guidelines.

· PPE Requirements: Personal protective equipment, such as gloves, goggles, and heat-resistant clothing, is often required to safeguard against burns and injuries.

· Shift Work: Operators may work in shifts, which can affect their exposure to different environmental conditions and their overall well-being.

· Temperature Fluctuations: Moving between hot and cooler areas within the facility can require quick adjustments in clothing or PPE.

· Physical Demands: The job often involves lifting heavy objects, standing for long periods, and performing repetitive motions, requiring physical stamina and proper ergonomics.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand for an 8 hour shift. Position requires frequent twisting, turning, reaching, bending, pulling and pushing. Position occasionally requires walking, climbing, stooping, and crouching. The employee must be able to handle up to 80 lbs on a regular basis throughout the 8 hour shift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Working conditions include exposure to extreme temperatures (heat) and humid conditions, dirt, and noise
