Hours: M-F (Overnight Hours)

Key Responsibilities:

• Accurately receive and accession patient specimens in accordance with NYCBS protocols and CLIA/CAP/CLEP standards

• Verify patient identification, test requisitions, and specimen labeling for accuracy and completeness

• Enter all pertinent demographic and test information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS)

• Sort and prepare specimens for testing, reference laboratory processing, or in-house workflows

• Communicate any discrepancies or urgent issues to the appropriate lab or clinical personnel

• Maintain specimen integrity and proper storage conditions during the overnight shift

• Adhere to all safety and infection control procedures

• Assist with inventory, specimen tracking, and routine cleanup of the accessioning area

• Collaborate with night shift laboratory staff and support team members to maintain workflow efficiency

• Perform additional duties as assigned by lab leadership

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or relevant certification preferred

• 1+ year of experience in specimen processing, phlebotomy, or a clinical laboratory setting preferred

• Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems (LIS) a plus

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment

• Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform light to moderate lifting
