Lab General Supervisor

We are a seeking an ambitious, friendly, positive, and compassionate Lab General Supervisor to join our Lab Department. 

The General Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of high complexity testing and testing personnel. This includes direct oversight of patient testing, quality management, and compliance with all applicable regulations.  

Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations & Compliance

• Provide day-to-day supervision of laboratory operations, ensuring testing is performed accurately, reliably, and timely.
• Ensure testing personnel adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements.
• Review, sign, and document all quality control (QC), calibration, maintenance, and proficiency testing records.
• Ensure remedial actions are taken and documented when test systems deviate from performance specifications.
• Maintain records of test system validation, instrument maintenance, reagent lot verification, and method performance characteristics.

Quality Management

• Implement and monitor the Quality Management System (QMS), including QA, QC, PT, and quality indicators.
• Participate in internal audits and readiness for external inspections (CAP, COLA, Joint Commission).
• Ensure ongoing staff competency assessments are conducted at 6 months, 12 months, and annually thereafter.
• Oversee new assay validation, verification studies, and instrument implementation .

Personnel Supervision

• Directly supervise testing personnel and provide ongoing technical guidance.
• Document training, competency, and performance evaluations in personnel files.
• Ensure staff schedules maintain adequate coverage for patient testing and QA programs.

Testing Responsibilities

• Perform high-complexity LCMS testing, including accessioning, extraction, instrument operation and data analysis.
• Validate and release patient test results in compliance with CLIA and laboratory policy.
• Investigate, document, and resolve test discrepancies, invalid runs, or quality failures.

Communication & Documentation

• Report directly to the Laboratory Director and Technical Supervisor regarding performance, compliance, and laboratory needs.
• Communicate quality issues, staff concerns, and patient testing problems promptly.
• Ensure HIPAA compliance and patient data confidentiality.

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, chemical, physical, or biological science.
• AND = 2 years experience in high-complexity testing
• AND = 1 year experience in a supervisory role (§493.1461).
• Certification preferred (ASCP, AMT, AAB, or equivalent).
• Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP, COLA, and relevant state requirements
