Job Summary of the Lab Specialist, Medical Affairs

The Lab Specialist, Medical Affairs will support Axogen’s training and education efforts, including external customer events and various internal training programs; ultimately supporting the hands-on training efforts of our Medical Affairs, Professional Education, Clinical Research, R&D, Sales and Marketing departments.  They will provide logistical support and are responsible for managing the daily operations of our Axogen Logistics Facility in Alachua, FL.  In addition, the Lab Specialist may provide technical expertise to thought leaders, surgeons, clinicians and internal team members.  The Lab Specialist may also oversee other lab staff including lab technicians.  The position is based in the Axogen Logistics Facility and requires travel of up to 30%, including weekends as needed. 

Requirements of the Lab Specialist, Medical Affairs

• Minimum of BS in Life Science or Engineering


• At least 3 years of experience in one or both of the following areas:

• Nurse, PA, Scrub Technician, OR Assistant, Lab Technician


• Medical Device Education, Sales or Marketing

• Strong clinical aptitude and technical presentation skills, with a passion for advancing scientific knowledge.


• Ability to take ownership and work independently.


• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.


• Ability to travel up to 30% of the time, including weekends as needed.


• Ability to collaborate with other team members and departments.

Responsibilities of the Lab Specialist, Medical Affairs

The specific duties of the Lab Specialist, Medical Affairs include but are not limited to:

• Manages daily operations of the Axogen Logistics Facility including packing, shipping and receiving of lab materials and supplies, inventory management, demo ordering, cleaning and sterilization of equipment and instrument/equipment maintenance.


• Supports the collaboration of Medical Affairs and Professional Education to identify, plan and organize surgeon education events.


• Provides on-site support at Axogen Professional Education programs managing set-up/tear down, specimen delivery/pickup, specimen preparation and providing hands-on technical support.


• Must ensure compliance with relevant federal, state and local requirements and safety protocol as it relates to anatomical specimens and proper handling of biohazard materials.


• Responsible for the compliance of our Axogen Logistics Facility.


• Supports educational course instruction by serving as a technical, clinical and scientific expert. This may include hands-on demonstrations or didactic training. 


• Harvesting of nerve tissue and dissection of anatomical specimens.


• Complies with all company policies, procedures and SOP’s.
