The Lab Technician position assists in all aspects of the operation and maintenance of the Test Lab.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILILTIES
· Perform pre-testing, large and small scale testing, equipment evaluation testing, process testing, etc.
· Safely and properly operate all lab equipment
· Identify and tag customer test materials with proper identification
· Organize, move to, and retrieve from storage testing materials to support fluid operation of the lab.
· Dispose of lab materials after testing in accordance with customers’ wishes, including coordinating the recycling of abandoned materials and shipping desired materials back to customers
· Managing outbound shipments of test material back to customer to include packaging, prep and coordinating pickup with customer or shipping department.
· Perform test material scans on sensor sorters.
· Produce test reports after test work is completed.
· Assist with documenting and maintaining lab inventory of supplies and test materials.
· Perform preventive maintenance inspections, preventive maintenance tasks, and corrective maintenance repairs on all lab equipment. Maintain PM schedule in accordance with manufacturer specifications and/or frequencies determined by lab operation schedule
· Maintain the Test Lab and surrounding area in a state of show-room cleanliness
· Other duties as assigned
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Assist with coordination of receiving of customers’ test materials
· Individual must be willing to aid the company in other functions when required
· Meet individual quarterly goals that coordinate with the department and company goals
· As available, or when directed, support production operations
· Adherence to safe work practices in an industrial environment.
· Must be self-directed and able to work productively without direct supervision.
· Ability to work as a self-directed individual and as part of a team.
· Willingness to work extended hours, as needed.
· Ability to lift up to 50-lbs.
· Certification to drive a forklift and BobCat (classes can be obtained through Steinert).
· Working knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel. Other software as required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Experience in Scrap Metal recycling, Waste recycling and Mining
· Development / Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures
· Experience working in a small department
· Machinery Maintenance background
· Electrical controls, PLC, and troubleshooting
· Use of overhead cranes and rigging
· Lean Manufacturing implementation
· Participation in Kaizen / Continuous Improvement Projects
WORKING CONDITIONS
· Working outdoors a large percentage of time and in all weather conditions.
· Small company environment
