Labor Estimator II

​​​​​Position Summary:

Talent Source is seeking an experienced Labor Estimator II (Structural) to join shipyard projects in San Diego. This role involves analyzing work specifications, RFPs, and blueprints to determine trades, labor hours, and materials required for ship repair projects. The ideal candidate has a strong background in ship repair estimating, structural trades, and production coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

• 
  

  Communicate with customers to gather information for quotes and proposals

  
  


• 
  

  Review RFPs, work specifications, drawings, blueprints, and material lists to identify trades, potential subcontractors, and required man-hours

  
  


• 
  

  Confer with Materials Planners regarding product pricing, availability, and delivery schedules

  
  


• 
  

  Prepare cost proposals and production reports including labor, materials, and sub-estimates

  
  


• 
  

  Maintain contract files, assist with documenting processes, and support production and accounting teams

  
  


• 
  

  Interact with SCW&M managers and customer contracting officers to ensure RFP requirements are met

  
  


• 
  

  Conduct ship checks to confirm scope of work and estimates are accurate

  
  


• 
  

  Serve as a subject matter expert in 2–3 ship repair disciplines (e.g., Structural, Sheet-metal, Machinery, Electrical, Decking, Paint, Pipe, Rigging, Scaffolding, Lagging/Insulation, Habitability)

  
  

Required Qualifications:

• 
  

  High school diploma required; some college coursework desirable

  
  


• 
  

  Minimum 5–7 years of ship repair experience

  
  


• 
  

  Advanced knowledge of shipyard trades and ship repair practices

  
  


• 
  

  Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  
  


• 
  

  Ability to perform advanced math and maintain attention to detail

  
  


• 
  

  Able to lift 25–50 lbs and perform occasional physical tasks for site visits (climb ladders, kneel, bend, or stoop)

  
  


• 
  

  Basic English communication skills

  
  


• 
  

  Must present a valid export document for E-Verify and ship access clearance

  
  

Schedule & Compensation:

• 
  

  Full-time, 40 hours per week

  
  


• 
  

  Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.

  
  


• 
  

  Occasional overtime or weekend work as required

  
  


• 
  

  Pay Range: $30–$40/hour (based on experience)
