Position Summary:
To supervise employees providing laboratory services in Histology section. To provide laboratory services in assigned section. Perform the work detailed in this job description. Train new personnel to meet their job standards. Determine that work in section is done according to the established deadlines. Maintain the work environment so work can be done according to the established deadlines and standards (including C.A.P., JCAHO, and any applicable state / federal regulatory agencies establishment and revision of departmental policies and procedures to adhere to practice standards commonly used by the aforementioned accrediting bodies. Assess the reasonableness of work to be done by the staff. Determine innovative ways to improve work done and services provided by the staff. Implement new systems and equipment to improve work done and service provided by the staff. Evaluate and adopt new techniques or methodologies to ensure high quality, cost effective Histology services for patient and physician customers. Ensure that a technologist in charge supervises work and resolves problems during the supervisor's absence. Be cost conscious and promote cost awareness among supervised employees. Meet requirements as set forth by accrediting agencies. Performs duties and conducts interpersonal relationships in a professional manner in order to project a positive image of the laboratory and the hospital. Works with the laboratory staff, nursing staff, medical staff, visitors and patients in a professional manner. Dedicated to meeting the expectations of the internal and external customers. Work closely with staff pathologists to ensure that the histology staff performs using high quality and safe laboratory practices. Ensure that laboratory policies and procedures are current and meet the standards of accrediting agencies. Prepare and participate in C.A.P. laboratory inspection process as well as inspection by any other regulatory / accrediting body.
Position Qualification: (Training, Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities)
USA or equivalent BS degree preferred. MT(ASCP) or equivalent certification preferred.
Five years of technical experience and two years of supervisory experience preferred.
Basic computer skills required.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
Current State of Florida Supervisor license in Histology. Expertise in special stain techniques and immunohistochemistry.
Communication Skills:
Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally with all levels of the organization.
