About the Role
The Laboratory Manager is responsible for managing the processes and performance of pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical laboratory tests and procedures under the direction of the Laboratory Director or designated Pathologist. The Laboratory Manager is responsible for oversight of all clinical, histological and cytological departments of U.S Urology Pathology Lab. The Laboratory Manager will ensure accurate reporting of tests to physicians and mid-level providers for diagnosis and treatment plans. The Laboratory Manager position requires a highly organized and technical individual who has laboratory experience as a Medical Technologist as well as management experience.
What You’ll Be Doing
Technical
Manages and participates in all laboratory histology and cytology processes and testing.
Responsible for developing laboratory policies and procedures within the scope of CLIA regulations.
Performs technical operations at times of increased workload and staff absences.
Responsible for regularly evaluating and maintaining all lab instrumentation as well as the laboratory computer systems.
Facilitates the evaluation and implementation of new laboratory testing and appropriate instrumentation with the goal of continued laboratory growth and expansion.
Responsible for the development, maintenance and review of all laboratory QA/QC programs.
Ensures successful enrollment, performance, completion and submission into the CAP proficiency testing program to meet CLIA standards.
On-call during off-shifts and weekends to assist with staff questions and concerns.
Monitors satellite locations through routine or as-needed visitations to ensure all laboratory departmental operations and policies regarding specimen collection, specimen handling and waived testing are being adhered to.
Responsible for inventory management and ordering of lab supplies.
Administrative
Responsible for the daily scheduling and management of laboratory staff including monitoring employee time clocking and verification of payroll information.
Establishes and maintains time schedules while monitoring productivity of work assignments with the goal of maximizing staff utilization.
Updates and maintains educational qualification documents for all laboratory staff in accordance with CLIA standards.
Coordinates and administers the orientation and training of newly hired staff to the laboratory and phlebotomy labs. Responsible for facilitating continuing education programs for all laboratory staff to ensure maximum competencies and proficiencies.
Responsible for timely performance evaluations for the laboratory staff as well as monitoring rates of pay based on position, skill-level and competency.
Projects pathology specimen volumes and coordinates locum pathologists as needed.
Meets with vendors and account service representatives for all laboratory related supplies and services.
Collaborates with Laboratory Director or designated Pathologists on departmental equipment and supply needs adhering to budgetary requirements.
Attends required staff meetings, in-services and AMP committee meetings.
Responsible for continuing education to maintain knowledge of current requirements for compliance of all CLIA, OSHA, AND HIPPA standards.
What We Expect from You
Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology
A minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience in a medical laboratory setting
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have thorough knowledge in computer information systems.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Compensation
Salary Range:
$120,000 - $150,000 annually
Compensation will vary based on experience, education, and geographic location.
