Job Description - Laboratory Technician II


*Due to being an in-plant position, the below referenced job duties have been provided by the client: 

 Responsibilities
• Performs and documents quality assurance testing to ensure the accuracy and integrity of analytical results in adherence to the Laboratory Quality Assurance program.
• Performs all analyses in accordance with the Refinery and Loss Control Programs to meet goals of improved safety and reduced refinery losses.
• Learns and applies analytical standards and methods, and regulatory requirements in order to ensure compliance while completing assigned tasks.
• Applies education and uses creativity to solve technical problems encountered during the course of completing assigned tasks.
• Communicates and consults with engineers, operators and maintenance personnel to ensure accurate analyses.
• Practices good interpersonal skill sets daily; including communication, listening, teamwork and leadership.
• Takes responsibility for tasks, quality, and accuracy and is accountable for those responsibilities.
• Responsible for the safety/health of self and those working with you, promoting health and safety of others, and performing quality work in a safe and environmentally conscientious manner.
• Responsible for complying with Laboratory policies and procedures, company policies and procedures, established standards, and governmental regulations (Federal, State and Local).

Basic/Required Qualifications
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to work alone as well as in a team.
• Able to work 12-hour rotating shift schedule.
• Computer proficiency (MS Office).
• Willing and able to perform and comply with the following items, with or without accommodation:
• To work overtime.
• To lift up to 50 pounds.
• To work around chemicals, including acids and bases.
• To wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toed shoes, ear and eye protection).
• To maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven) if applicable.
• To work outside in harsh weather conditions.
• To work with petroleum products that are under high pressure and heat.
• To learn computer software associated with process operations.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Associate Degree in Chemical Technology or 16 hours of college level Chemistry course work.
• 2 years’ experience in lab environment.
• Good interpersonal skills including active listening, issue resolution, proactive communication, leadership and teamwork

Summary of Description: The Technician will work under the supervision of an assigned specific discipline and based on experience the individual evaluates, selects, and applies standard applicable techniques. Could include discipline work of purchasing, expediting, NDT Inspection, project controls, surveying, laser scanning, schedulers, planner, construction inspectors, project coordinators, automation, controls, etc. 

Duties:

•Assists assigned supervisor in various aspects of projects assigned. 

•Applying standard discipline techniques to make minor adaptations and modifications.

•Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

License Requirements:

•Valid Driver’s License as per State law or requirement

Specific Skills:

•Detailed working knowledge of Policies and Procedures related to project work.

Physical Requirements:

•Ability to walk up to one mile on industrial plant and construction sites outdoors at any time of the year. 

•Ability to work in protective clothing which may elevate body temperatures by several degrees Fahrenheit for periods of up to 15 minutes without a break.

•Ability to use multi-level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted.

•Ability to hear safety alarms and signals while wearing hearing protection. 

•Ability to sit at desk and operate computer for extended periods of time.

•Ability to stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear.

•Ability to see with visual acuity and distinguish between colors.

•Ability to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license.

•Ability to lift and carry 15 lbs. on a regular basis is required and at times lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.
