JOB SUMMARY:

The Lactose Operator will provide oversight of lactose production ensuring machines, equipment, dryers, silos, and lines are operating efficiently and producing safe and quality products.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operation of Lactose dryers, Temas and decanters 
• Conduct regular tests of product packaging
• Collect samples of product for quality testing
• Clean-in-place (CIP) all process equipment, silos and lines
• Perform the startup and shutdown functions of process equipment
• Operate ultra-filtration equipment 
• Perform product transfers through various lines, dryers, and silos
• Obtain and accurately log data from product drop tests, samples, and machine performance 
• Always maintain food safety and quality standards, resolving and/or reporting compliance issues immediately.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to learn and operate complex production machinery in a safe and efficient manner
• Knowledge of good manufacturing practices
• Ability to regularly lift and carry bags of product which may weigh up to 55lbs
• Strong time management skills with the ability to complete various tasks with minimal supervision
• Ability to read, hear, speak, comprehend, carry out instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
• Ability to take detailed, accurate, and legible notes and data logs
• Ability to perform basic math functions and counting 
• Knowledge of filtration systems, dryers, and/or food manufacturing process preferred
• Ability to work 12 hour shifts - including holidays and weekends

Experience:

• At least 1 year of experience in a plant production, warehouse, or general labor 
• Previous experience in dairy processing or food and beverage preferred

Education:

•  High school degree or GED

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Requires ability to walk and stand for 12 or more hours at a time
• Requires ability to safely operate equipment by visually observing the condition of equipment and surroundings
• Requires ability to hear and speak, occasionally in high time weighted average environments with elevated decibel readings (using appropriate hearing protection)
• Requires ability to walk, stand, stoop, bend, reach, lift, push, pull and carry items up to 55lbs
• Requires ability to push and pull items up to 100lbs 
• Requires ability to work in varying extreme hot, cold, and wet temperatures and conditions
• Requires ability to work safely with hazardous chemicals
